For a 2g? look for a part number: M/T starter: MD172862 A/T starter: MD178511

yes 2g.. but the photo doesn't identify which is which..

part number on mine is m1t73383 Mitsubishi

From what I was able to find with your part number it appears to be an automatic 1g starter

Aw damn it .. guess it is my old auto one.. Could you post links please?

I had a 5 speed from a 2g and a automatic one sitting in my closet.. this is the only one i found and guess its the Auto.

4G63's used a reduction starter, in which this pict above is due to the longer housing.
The black housing contains the reduction gearing.
The rear end cap contained the four brushes..and this is where a lot of starter issues begins due to the brushes are not made for durability due to their actual length.
If one can easy work on these units, a $8.00 brush kit is one that needs to get these starters working fine again.

Manual starters had a bendix gear that extended farther outward to meet the teeth on the flywheel. Automatics (which is the one in the pict above) had the bendix gear more recessed due to the starter ring on the TC was more forward.

4G37's used a direct drive starter which was in a shorter case due to the lack of the reduction gearing.

I did a reduction starter replacement using a reman starter from Autozone. Unit still in operation.
