Ideas for fast 420A...minus a turbo!

hey guys....ya'll think i should just go ahead and get my car painted when i get it outta the shop? i just got so many ideas and stuff...but it's kinda hard when your car is STILL in the shop. and since it's in the shop i'm pretty much home reading forums a majority of the time. i've even been thinking about turboing my car also. like just buy parts and build a custom turbo kit....cause it seems like if i go NA, i won't be able to go far with the car! but it would be amazing to see it reach 180 or so whp or even at the crank. let me know what ya guys think? i know a majority of you will say go turbo. but i guess i'm just lookin for that really good reason to go all motor! someone help me! haha! peace ya'll
 
Well i'm out of the car business gentlemen! i just got word i need a new engine! my dad called the mechanic cause i need a vehicle....he said it gonna cost more money cause something messed with the pistons and the head, don't ask cause i dunno! so for those of you out there who are inexperienced, DO NOT MESS WITH YOUR HEAD, DO NOT MESS WITH YOUR TIMING, DO NOT MESS WITH THE HEAD GASKET. SIMPLY PUT YOUR TOOLS DOWN AND YOUR EGO ASIDE AND CALL THE TOW TRUCK AND MECHANIC AND HAVE THE MONEY TO GET HER DONE! trust me....you don't wanna learn from your own experience unless you got money to play with!

so what are you doing with it? are you just getting rid of it or are you trying to fix it?
 
i'm tryin to get ahold of some money and get it out of the shop. but i'm prolly done with mods for awhile! maybe get boltons on like header and exhaust piping, but then i'm done for awhile til i have money in the bank so if something goes wrong i'll have money to back myself up! so i prolly won't start buyin stuff again til spring! or atleast til i get money in the bank
 
Sucks to hear man. Welcome to the world of interference engines. It's nothing more than a set back. Just like I've been waiting over a month now for custom pistons to be made and arrive. Then I'm looking forwad to finding the machine shop tell me they can't get to my block until after Christmas or something. It's been a long three months with no 2GNT. :(

She's still got the sunshield in the window because it was still hot outside when I parked her for tear apart. Now it's all cold and like 60* at night. Oh, and the driver's door handle broke on me this weekend. So much to do, so long to get any of it to get here. Now it's all about installing my wideband, Sportlines, and getting version 2 of the backlit center piece done.

oh they old broken door handle mod eh? best mod i ever did. great gains. the write up doug did is good, but it is the biggest pain in the ass, and try to get the lock in the cylinder with the locking pin on right, i didnt and have to unlock it on the passanger side :mad:

man that really sucks! i hope my car doesn't end up three months! i mean it's been down for about a month now. do you have another car to drive? i'm pretty much either gettin rides from friends and family or mom will let me use her car occassionally! i'm hopin to have her up and running soon. i just need to concentrate on gettin mad money before it gets done! good luck man!

I was honestly kinda spooked when Garrett told me about your timing belt snapping. I didn't say anything cuz I didn't want to jinx you. Just do like me and leave the internals alone for right now and just rock out with the bolt-ons (i/h/e/udp, etc) :thumb:

hey matt....yeah i think the car could use a few good prayers at this point. i miss my car man, it's been down for almost two months now....URGH! yeah i think the bolt on's are a good idea. i mean if i buy more internals, i sure as hell am not doing it! haha. i'll just buy some stuff that i can put on my self. i plan on gettin pipin as soon as she's out. my buddy down at car x will do it for 40 bucks or shotgun shells. haha. and i wanna get some ssautochrome headers off ebay for about 130. it'll be quick enough for me then! until i have more money. haha. but, we gotta take one thing at a time, and first is gettin the car out of the shop! but, when i get her out and have the piping put on, i'll hit ya up and give ya a holla. so you'll be hearing from me hopefully soon! haha. how's your clipse doin? you need to get some pics on here. i think i'm gonna try and load mine today. but, take it easy man.
 
hey guys...well i just got my car back from the shop yesterday. nothing is really new with it. i didn't have the money for a new engine so i had it towed back to the house and have it sit in the yard. here's what i'd like to do. i'd like to just go ahead and find a bottom end and a top end. send the top end out to get p&p...save up money to buy the master 2.0 performance kit on howell, and maybe even the 2.2 stroker kit. i dunno about the 2.2 kit yet. anyways, send the intake mani and tb out to be p&p...when i get everything, leave it sit in the back of the car and save up for labor fees to have the kit, and the parts put together by the mechanic so he can rebuild the engine and have it installed. how does that sound? like a dream? yeah that's what i was thinking too. but my buddy was given this 240sx for free. he told me all it needs is brakes, radiator and an a/c hose. he said he's sell it to me for about 800, and the body on it is amazing. but should i go ahead and purchase the 240 just so i'll have a car? i'm just really confused on what to do right now guys. please help me out, cause i'm sure you all have gone through this situation and didn't have a car. but i'm also just tired of driving my parents car, but i wouldn't have money for a new engine for another 2-4 weeks, cause it cost 2K.
 
Hey Josh, I would probably just drive your parents car if I were you.

You know I love 240's but think about it, man. You got to save up all the money you can and it won't help droping 800 bucks on another car (and then even more money getting it to run) when you already have a car that you could be using.

Think about it, man. When my car's getting shit applied or stuff done to it, I gotta swallow my pride and drive the beater Altima. I know that your situation is a lot graver than mine but that's just my advice.

hey matt...yeah i talked to one of my buddies mechanics today. he said he's gonna look for a 420A engine in his junk yard tomo. he said if he finds one he'll install it for me for about 1300. and from the other engine i'm gonna have the valve sent out to get polished and the intake mani and throttle body sent out to get port and polished. and then when i officially get my car back, just save money up, just incase it does break down! so yeah...i'll keep ya'll posted if he finds me an engine or not. their so hard to find!
 
The white Talon above is still sitting just as you see it above. I took the sun shade down though. I am the vicitim of serious ball dropping by a vendor, and now I have another month minimum before my pistons come back. Then I have to wait a month for my shop to do the work and assemble it for me (fast, cheap or right - I picked cheap and right). I'll be driving this piece of shit 4g63 around for another two months. :cry: It's got two failing CV axles, a broken motor mount, and a transmission with valving problems. I hate ####ing slushbox automatics.

But just you wait until April. Daisy will be resurrected with a vengance....

Just buy a 1g. They range from $2-3k and turbo awd will cost you like $1k more. Might as well start fresh for the same money that it'll take you to get another Chrysler motor back into your car. That would make the most sense. :rolleyes:

Yeah. You've done so much to your car. Thanks for sharing your infinite wisdom with us. You contributed so much here today. The head on my 420a cost twice as much as my entire 1G beater. I think I'll stick to making than what you've got out of what I've got, thank you. :rolleyes:

Actually, I wasn't implying that. Maybe if this guy has a fresh start with some real potential, he'll save some money instead of throwing it all at his motorless n/t. Some people on this forum can't stand to see others throw barrel loads of money at something they'll never go far with. It sucks to see that you're not such a person. And it seems like you're his 'friend'. :rolleyes:

hey guys...thanks for the help so far. i found a cheaper guy to put me a motor in. this guy found a motor for me for 1100, i'll be gettin it this wed. and he'll install it for about 200 and maybe cheaper if i help. he's also gonna install my engine mounts and possibly my gauges. he'd also paint my front bumper and hood for about 2-300. but i'm just gonna concentrate on gettin the car running. i know i could find a 1g really cheap...i've already had a few offers. but i don't want them, i love the 2g's! i've also been offered a 1990 240sx for about 1300, but i've put so much money into this car, i don't wanna get rid of it! and that's not considered in my planning to get rid of it! so i mean please don't consider that! but i will let ya'll know what's up with my car when i get it back, and then i'll start adding some more mods. my next best bet after the engine is gettin a header, and custom piping, and then saving up for the 2.0 performance top end kit off howell....

also my new mechanic said he found me two engines. this is funny and he really wanted to do it, so i'm gonna ask him about it monday and see what kinda price he was lookin at if i helped..just for fun! but he found me a 4G63 engine w/ turbo, catback, fuel, and ecu wiring. haha.

Heh. You're throwing money at something you'll never go far with man! I can't stand to see you doing that! :rolleyes: Ordinarilly, I would just blow that sort of comment right off, but to hear someone who's done all of one hour's worth of mods to their car talking shit on the NT people is ridiculous. I didn't see anything in this thread asking if it was cheaper to go all motor. Anyone who thinks all motor 2GNT is cheap is a complete idiot. The guy has a car with no engine in it. It's in his best interest to fix what he already has than to scrap it out and start anew with a different platform.

I wonder what stock 4g63s put to the wheels? /time for the search at 2GNT...
