a different turbo question for 420A

Man, these gauges are expensive. Are MBC the same as gauges, only buy name brands that we all should trust, or can I get an inexpensive one?

EDIT: Are OBX gauges of good quality? I found a site that has all the gauges I need for $39.99 each. Let me know. Thanks guys.

Autometer gauges are not expensive at all. Go with Phantom or Ultra-Lite series ones. They are around $40-50 each.

To some people that is expensive for two pieces of plastic and a needle. I guess I don't really have a choice. Back to my MBC question, can I buy a CI motorsports MBC for $15.99 and have it work fine, or should I be weary and go with a $60 one?

Should I also get a fuel pressure gauge? Or will I be okay only running 16psi with a vac/boost gauge, oil pressure gauge, and an Air/Fuel gauge. Also, should I get mechanical or electrical gauges?

Just go with autometer, they've been proven time and time again. If they fail they seem to have excellent support service. Paul knows first hand.

Mechanical/electrical it's really up to you. I wouldn't recommend getting a mechanical oil pressure gauge just because it runs hot oil through the tube into the cockpit to the gauge. If a leak occurs in the line you will have a mess to clean up. Basically the only mechanical gauge I would recommend is the boost gauge.

As for MBC, they are hit or miss. Some cheap-o ones work, some don't. I've had one of those and now i have the Turbo XS hi performance MBC and highly prefer it over Ebay cheap MBC.

I just wanted to say DSMcrazy3 I love you in a very plutonic way, you answer every one of my questions.

I was going to go with the CImotorsports MBC, I will keep a look out tho, I don't get my kit until later in the week. The retard that sold it didn't know my address was on my Pay Pal account.

Oh yeah... when I first bought my mechanical boost gauge, the needle was sitting off zero, so they replaced it no questions asked. Then, the replacement eventually lost its calibration too; I assume because of the South Florida heat. In any event, they replaced that one too. Then, that one lost its calibration! At that point I just wanted an electronic one, and they agreed to replace my old mechanical one for a brand new electronic one just for my troubles. That was like a $200.00 price difference, so needless to say, I'm quite happy.

Wow, I should contact them. Mine is off of 0 by a little bit. That would be nice to get a replacement.

That is good to know, I plan to start making my gauge cluster tomorrow, I will start with a roll of cookie sheets and a cardboard box. I can't wait to start fiberglassing, that happens to be my favorite part.

Call SBC at 800-988-4345. One of the many great things about SBC, is they are not going to try to sell you their most expensive clutch. They will sell you what you convince them you need. Good people.

I called them, and I am getting the OFE clutch stage 3. I should be okay even going to the track and running it hard. I loved the fact that it was only $20 shipping for a clutch! Great company and people.

I am also getting my FCD from Paul, after that I need to get the info about my engine from the machine shop than I am DONE. Minus the fact I have to do the whole install, minor details. Thank you all for the help and support, I will post pics and dyno tests when I am done.
