I recently Bought a 93 eclipse gst for $2000... The car had a bad turbo (which I knew about and I had a 20g chinabay turbo with O2 dump laying around so I decided that I might as well use it! Anyways the power steering pump was also bad and I had to purchase a O2 sensor.. I later find out it has a bad clutch!!! Ofcourse after bleeding the hell out master cylinder and adjusting the rod under the dash.. along with removing the whole master and slave cylinder completely with lines from my 91 and installing and bleeding the crap out of it... I have had this car for a little more than a week and already have well over 24 hours of labor in her!!! :banghead: However, the body only has 118,000 miles and it is one of the best looking 1g's I've seen around here that hasn't been completely redone. The engine is supposedly rebuilt and looks clean under the hood and all so i guess that's a plus!! It has a 6 bolt swap and a thermal research and development cat back with a 3" down pipe and cat bypass. I hate buying used cars especially manuals that are meant for performance and abused!! Unfortunately, I have unconditional love for my DSM!!! :barf:

hahaha 24 hrs? .... I think I might have like 2000HRs between my two cars. Have to pay to play the game. Used cars are bought knowing there prob f'ed up. Live and learn. Mod'd dsm's are bad news usually.

i have to say when buying cars like this people dont sell cars because they only need a cheap part to fix it.

and really any dsm you find now is gunna have been beat on.

i bought mine figuring what ever i bought it for i would need that amount to fix any issues i found

I've replaced 2 motors, 1 auto tranny, swaped a manual tranny, xfer, harness, rearend. then I replaced the trans a xfer again. and I've painted the car. Its the prettiest piece of sh!t I've ever owned. LOL

i probably have a month in labor alone gone thru 7 engines and had drove it no more than 5k miles in the last year and a half and still loving it!

why cry over 24hrs???

Lol I know.... I just hate that some insurance companies won't give full coverage on an older vehicle and even if they do the blue book value of our cars is under $3000... I'd be pissed if some jack ass f'ed up my Baby after all the money and time I invest and to be humiliated with a $3000 or probably less check. Then I will have to go through the troubles all over and I hate cars other people have wrenched on... People do some pretty shady shit!! That's 24 hours in the first week of owning it.... The brake's weren't even bled when I bought it!! Had to pump the brakes for the hour drive home when I needed to stop!!

This me when I get my dose of boost. again LOL at $3K. If that offends you get out of the game now. I think I calculated at one point I've spend $25K, car being free, and not including gas...in the last 4 years.

Oh and still not pushing any awesome power levels.

I'm Not Understanding the Title of this thread? Where did you explain the getting Ripped off part?:p

Sounds like you made an uneducated buy... 24 hours of work LOL LMFAO ROFL

Live an learn... theirs a saying that kind applies here I think
"In School you are taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you are given a test and taught a lesson":)

Sounds like a pretty good deal if you ask me! Even if all you really got was a clean shell... I spent $1850 plus gas and uhaul rental, and close to 20 hours (road trip from NE Ohio to Philadelphia PA) just picking up my 2g SHELL (no engine/trans).

You didn't get ripped off, you just entered the world of DSMs! Welcome.

I was very clear with the guy that I did not want to do a clutch soon... Especially mess with the master cylinder and all. Not to mention the part where he shoved a bolt that was 2 inches 2 long in the slave cylinder to make the clutch disengage... He was aware that I have a 91 with a bad clutch and was having tons of trouble with it... One of the Drive axle stubs was stuck in the transmission that I payed $700 to get rebuilt 2 years ago when I did the clutch.. I spent over 40 hours trying to get the stub out with no luck. I also spent about 50 hours on the Control arms that I never got off... I then purchased an 85 VW GTI before the 93 GST.. I was having lots of problems with this car too... I told him I needed a vehicle that would get me around at least for awhile with very little fixin!! The hole point is he lied!! Durring all the time I was trying to fix each of my 3 vehicles before purchasing this one I was replacing tons of stuff on all of my vehicles!! LOTS OF MONEY AND TIME WITH MINIMAL RESULTS AND FOR PEOPLE TO VANDALIZE MY VEHICLES!! TOO MANY PEOPLE HAVE DISRESPECT FOR OTHER PEOPLES POSSESSIONS AND NEED A GOOD ASS WHOOPING!! I hate people who drive around in their new cars and brag about their $200 deductible!! Makes me want to blow up their car but it only costs them $200!!! They scratch or dent my car and it costs me a shit load of cash or time!!! TIME IS MONEY!!

Holly Wall of text...
IMHO sounds like You need to just go out an vent on it by Fixing it.
(after your sure you know what your problems Are an Completely understand what your doing or need to do)...

No offence but, Sound like you still got alot learning to do ... (I read your other thread)

Also,
Telling someone that you don't want to do a clutch doesn't make if have one:idontknow: that's what making an Educated buy is:thumb:

well if your buying all this cars and there all messed up then your not inspecting the cars right before buying them but i bought my 2gb talon for 1200 with the engine in the pallet and the rest in the trunk and the tranny was riding shutgun so yours dont sound that bad, some people now a days will say anything just to sell their crap.
whats the lesson learned here.....dont trust people you dont know or look funky when they say something

Yeah thats the way mine was. It needed a trans which turned out to need all this
-Trans and transfer case
-Ball joints
-Clutch
-Tie rods
-Injectors

After all my $900 car turned into $3300 car. Now sitting with a head gasket only 3k miles later. I am out a dd. Still beat my honda on reliability. However both are sitting in the back yard.

i was actually very lucky everything was their and the tranny was good eveything except the engine(that i was told) it actually has mopar timing belt, all mopar belts, fuel filters in the trunk/...

but to the OP hope you get it running soon man goodluck

sounds to me like you came up. You get to play and become one with your new wife, or should I say life?

What is the clutch issue, from the sounds of things he put a longer rod on the slave because the clutch probly doe's not disengage properly, and that it is grabbing right off the floor, am I right. I have seen this alot in talons with worn pedal assemblies this is a febel attempt to fix the problem but it does not work.

If this is the problem then the cause is likely the clutch pedal shaft is worn out causing not enough travel on the master. To check this grab the pedal and pull on it, if it moves back then the shaft is worn out. I have fixed this on several talons, you have to remove the pedal assembly set the pedal up where it should be on the shaft and weld it. Or you can replace the pedal assembly, I think I seen an add on here selling pedal assemblies to fix this problem.

I Have an extra Stainless steel 2.5" turbo back exhaust laying around with low miles. Its a VRS paid $700 for that about 2 years ago! The new car sounds cammed... Need to get a micrometer and measure the lobes when I retighten the head bolts!! Car also seems to run rich but the lowband is normally stoich but sometimes goes a little in the rich... Fuel pump is noisy and should probably be replaced and the fuel filter is leaking out the banjo fitting!

That might be the cause of the bad clutch disc!! The disc is visibly worn! The mating surface is ground all the way down!!! However when I was adjusting the master I noticed that I could lift the pedal up a bit and make it hit the Cruise Control switch but, I checked it on my 91 and the Cruise control switch was adjusted in more.... don't know if it would come up more if I adjusted it out though!! But if I use the stock Rod or a different rod that i purchased on ebay (it probably killed the clutch on my 91) and It doesn't stay to the floor It just doesn't feel stiff!! It had and ACT 2600 pressure plate with a stage 2 clutch..

It doesn't look like fun removing the clutch pedal assembly I hate working down there!!! I find it helps to remove the lower dash!!! I would probably remove the seat too if I had to remove the clutch pedal assembly!! I want to put my black and gray checkered seats in from my 91!!

I would check the pedal assembly also. That happened to me.

Also, doesn't sound like you were "ripped off". Sounds like you were introduced to the "love hate relationship" LOL.

I got my car with the motor taken apart in the trunk. Still fightin with it every now and then. But hot dam boost is fun!

If it has cams you should be able to feel the power band not flat line at 5500 it will pull to 7, but you can measure.

I would get a wide band o2 sensor if I were you. those narrow bands are junk.

A noisy fuel pump could be that he has done the rewire mod and they get louder after that, or he has installed an upgraded fuel pump along with the rewire mod. if that is the case it will be noisy.

I just had a leaky fuel filter, my problem was it was replaced and the new one had a bur that was interfering with the seal of the copper ring to the filter causing a leak.

how much is the disc worn down is it flush with the rivets that hold the disc material in place.

If it is a puck style clutch it is common for the pressure plate to wear a shallow grove into the plate, because it is not like a regular clutch that takes all the wear on the disc.

Ya if you can lift the pedal to make contact with the cruise switch the pedal shaft is worn. I remove the lower dash and the steering column to get the pedal assembly out, it is not really that hard just time consuming.

I think the cruise switch was backed out because if you look under the hood the cruise cable is pretty loose!!! I don't think the cruise is functional... We'll see when I get the money to get lube, tie rods, sway bar links and get the control arms replaced

don't worry, the things you do to the car now will make it a worthy investment for the future.
