I Made the Elite group of 420a N/A's!!!!

Hard to give advice when without a profile to look at (for mods and etc). Best thing I can tell you/him is its all in the launch and speed shift.
 
I know his mods List:

- Port & polished head. All Supertech valves, springs and retainers.
- Stage 2 Crane camshafts.
- 4-2-1 SS header into a test pipe and GST exhaust, all stainless steel.
- AEM intake w/ K&N conical filter.
- NVT350 transmission w/ Stage 4 clutch.
- Devil's Own stage 1 meth kit.
- Prothane engine mount inserts.
- KYB w/ Skunk2 lowering springs.
- OBX adjustable cam gears.
- Unorthodox Racing lightened crank pulley.
- OBX fuel rail.
- 17 x 7.5 rims w/ drag radials.
- Wideband O2
- SAFC II
- Heavily lightened, too much stuff removed to list, w/ 8-pt roll cage.
- OBX thermal intake spacer/gasket.
- 4 layer head gasket.
- Newly rebuilt block w/ 9.5 to 1 pistons.
- MSD ignition coil.
- Nology 8mm ignition wires.
- Nology SilverStar spark plugs.
- Power steering removed.
- AC removed.

He has a very similar mod list to me. I have a few questions though. 1, why a stage 4 clutch? he sint pushing that much HP, unless he plans on boosting one day Same thing with the roll cage. 2, what is a stage 2 crane? is that a 16, 18? 3, Why 9.5 comp? or is that a typo I am 90% sure we run 9.6 stock.

Big tip i'd give him is to get that TB/IM combo done, its cheap and good. Also crank scraper is a cheap good mod. Next biggest tip is to research some, like i said in my questions he has some unnecessary stuff if he isnt boosting, or coming close to the 200hp mark, like the fuel rail and other stuff i listed. And why the expensive spark plugs, just about everything i read said copper is about as good as we are getting. Beyond that stuff pretty good list.
 
He is boosting, in fact we had it boosted at one point, but switched back to NA while we decide where we are going with the turbo setup.

Car came with the roll cage, can't complain about a free roll cage.

He didn't rebuild with stock internals that is all I know. 9.5 is the CR he stated to me.

As for the Stage 2 cams, well the most I can tell you about them is they are for an SRT-4, and he also plans on using an SRT-4 crankshaft at some point.
 
ahh ok, that makes more sense to me then. I here the "stage" term for Crower, but for crane its always crane 14 or 16 etc. With the SRT-4 crank, I wonder if is he interested in going the "cloud conversion" route. Those are always fun to see.
 
I guess some people just love N/A cars. The huge mod list just to run some high 14s, whereas basically any TSi can run 13s in almost stock form, other than the boost controller. 16g gets you in 11s...

big congrats! i only ran at my track once, making 4 passes, and it's 1/8 mile. car is mostly stock with cheap ebay header, cold-air intake, and custom 2-1/2 cat-back pipe... (i bent and welded it myself at work LOL). i ran 11.06 at 65 mph leaving at around 2500rpm. i didnt really want to launch too hard ### it's my daily driver and i cant afford to snap an axle, but i REALLY wanted a 10. some more saving and few more cheap mods i should get there

Thanks, And this is my daily driver as well, don't worry we arn't putting down enough power in NA form to worry about axles so you should be good, main reason you should leave around 2500 rpm is because of wheel spin/hop unless of course you are using slicks.

First off, I've seen many lightly-mild modded GSX's barely break 14's, maybe its the driver but...

Secondly, you 4g63 guys have the research to get you there, most of the 420a world is new territory trying to get low. Not trying to start a 420a Vs 4g63 debate or anything.

Thirdly, I am sure I could slap a turbo on (with some fuel clutch changes) and run 12s if not faster, but lets be honest, anyone can slap a turbo on and get good times. Thats the thing you mentioned about different strokes. I love the challenge of NA and I love the durability of it, and most of all i love the fact that I am helping the (420a) community by bringing up more info and encouragement for those out there who are seeking to go this route.
 
Well said. I guess I wasn't quite thinking about the "just for fun" part of the 420A, in my head it was more like trying to go fast on a potentially slower platform while spending more.

I like that you are leading by example. If I had an NA, it would've def. raised my spirits.

Despite some of the horror of my following, I do plan on eventually getting a gsx/ awd tsi, and having a 10s weekend warrior, because honestly, who doesn't want one, but even then i will plan on trying to help take the 420a as far as i can, while keeping it a DD
