I finally broke the 15s barrier that every 420a NA wishes to when they stick to the NA path! I'll get the scans up soon, but here is the time slip info
60'...........2.212
330..........6.241
1/8..........9.630
1/8 MPH...71.80
1000........12.548
1/4..........14.999
MPH.........92.13

There is still room for improvement with how it was feeling I am sure I could be launching higher on the slicks I was using and I need more practice with slipping and dumping. (I either dumped right off the bat from bad habit or was holding the slip to long) but over all I am very happy to finally break the barrier and join the very very small number of others who have.

Huge thanks to Mark, for not only letting my barrow his slicks, but also teaching me the speed shift as well as the pointers and encouragement after each run. I don't think I would have hit 14's without him. :hellyeah:

So two minutes later uploaded the last 3 of my 6 time-slips, yes reverse order because i am scanner ignorant (the first 3 weren't anything special, these last 3 were done with slicks)

Congrats man. I cant tell you how weird it was seeing your dial as 14.99, then your time showing 14.999 on the board LOL. I wish I could have had the parts to race there and give you a run for your money. You beat me to 14s, but Ill be close behind!

Cool, congrats. Fotowntalon. I've follow your thread competition with 740turbobrick on 2gnt.

Your both setups are about the same except for the tuning. Did you make the switch to Msns before the SO.

I foget what both have 2gnt site is down until Dino gets it back up a running, problably when he's back home.

Are you both running the Nvt350 3.55 neon trans, or is it the stock mtx.

Also, are you both running built head with crower 2's with stock bottom or is it fully built top and bottom.

You both motivate me, to go N/a instead of turbo for my 1998 rs.

Congrats my man, definitely exciting stuff. And this was your first day on slicks....ever. Very cool to see your progression that day. I was really excited for you.

Absolutely agree. But again first day on slicks you took to them quickly.

I didn't notice the trap speed on that. 92.13 eh? Righteous :thumb: (Hmm, now that I think about it, I see a progression on the trap. I wonder if that was the AFX learning what you want out of it :hmm: )

As I said about the launch, you can get her down to 2.0 with those slicks, so with a 2.0 launch you would be even deeper into the 14's on your current set-up

Huge thanks to Mark, for not only letting my barrow his slicks, but also teaching me the speed shift as well as the pointers and encouragement after each run. I don't think I would have hit 14's without him. :hellyeah:

Absolutely my pleasure to help you out a little bit. But as you know, I can give you pointers all day long, but its still up to you to translate that into results. FWIW, I had a blast just helping :D.

IMO, its stuff like this is what the forums are all about. As I have said in the past, I never had this kind of resource when I was learning. All I had was my own experiences, the small group of immediate friends and the vendors (who just want to sell you their crap) for help/information. With these forums, you guys have access to a huge amount of information and experience as you try out new stuff. I'm just glad I could be a tiny bit of help. Kinda makes it worthwhile to spend time posting on sites like tuners :thumb:

but over all I am very happy to finally break the barrier and join the very very small number of others who have.

Just to put this in perspective for the 4g63 crowd; prior to Steve, there have only been 3 "known" indivduals who have run 14's, or lower NA (now again, "known". We can only go off what information that we have definite knowledge of. Only numbers/people that could be verified. Could there be others? Sure, but as in all the other DSM categories, we can only go off the 'known verifiable"). So its a pretty small group. There have been guys who have been trying to get in this group for years, and just haven't quite made it.

So, in the 420a crowd, this is a pretty big deal, and now there are 4 :applause:

Next up......Colby where are you?

MB

Edit: of course, its ironic that the guys who would get the most excited about this, will never see it. The 420a guys rarely come into the drag race area, LOL. Maybe give Paul a shout to see if he would move it into the 420a section for a little bit so they can appreciate it.

Ha, Ill be at the track as soon as I get my pulley from Unorthodox. I may have to go hold them at gunpoint, but as soon as I get it put on Im going straight to the track with slicks and going 14.9 or breaking an axle.

Wait, scratch that, 14.8 or bust. :D

Thanks for the congratulations, and no I was not running MSnS, one day in the future, but for now its the apexi SAFC2 + AFX ECU, also running the stock mtx, and stock bottom end. with built head and crower 2's (aka all my profile information is currently up to date) Basically it all translates into room for improvement.

I also forgot to thank Colby, who without the constant friendly rivalry I might not be this in debt... err umm i mean not have hit the time. Now that I hit it first, you can proceed to hit yours :p

Lastly to Bullet, Mark, i feel weird calling you bullet after meeting you in person. Your 420a god title is still in tact, and the more people we can add to are list of elite 14's the more people will find it attainable, and easier with as you put it, all the knowledge on this and 2gnts site. You could "almost" say that we are the buschurs/ and sheps of the 420a, a platform that people laughed at, and i see you hitting 12's very soon with your new set-up. 12s in a I4 NA would be insane, yet you are knocking on its door.

Awesome :hellyeah: Great song, but it would be better with the song's volume on low.

Congrats on your improvements. :thumb:

I knew it would be either you or 740turbobrick, don't matter still excellent.

Congrats man. Quite the accomplishment:)

That song got me way more pumped than I should be at almost 6 in the morning. LOL

Congrats on the times! C'mon Unorthodox, get this guy his pulley! I want to see that 14.8 slip.

Awesome :hellyeah: Great song, but it would be better with the song's volume on low.

Sorry about that I had it set on audio 75% music 25%, but its also just windows movie maker so not the greatest editing software. And honestly for the song I just put the whole thing together, then opened my music library and picked the song by the closest time (laziness ftw) but once again thanks all for the congratulations, means a lot to me, but what really means the most is inspiring others to get their cars there.

I am absolutely sick:barf: of walking around the staging lanes and being one of the very very few if not only 420a's, I feel lonely! spend the money its only debt, its the American way:thumb:!

I only seen 5 420a cars all weekend. Glad I could see the video of the runs! Way to rep the 420a crowd well.

i dont have many mods to my 420a but i might run it once before i get into serious mods just to compare what do you guys recommend launching at i practiced a bit n had minimal wheel hop at 3000 rpm's

Hard to tell someone what to launch at, because there are to many variables, like street or slick tire, or suspension, and power, and etc. With my street tires (through suspension mods) I wasn't getting wheel hop unless I launched at around 5K+, but would spin my tires if i launced much above 2500 (depends how much you slip the clutch) where as with slicks I could launch at 4500 with barely any wheel spin, and i could go higher if i was slipping the clutch. Wheel hop is super super bad for your drive-train. You want just that tad bit of wheel spin before it grabs and goes. We can continue this more in PMs if you want to prevent thread hi-jack if you wish

By the way, what were you shifting at? Revving it all the way out or shifting around 7 or so?

I believe so, and I say I believe so, because I think I was but between near heat stroke, near dehydration and just shitty memory i'm not 100% sure, It was between 6800-7500. It was basically that something kind of clicked, and I almost felt I could tell when to shift with only quick glances to the rpms.

Also I don't know if you ran into this Colby, but for some reason I (at least for that day) that I was way more accurate with speed shifting. I mean i missed gears my first 3 runs, but as soon as I started speed shifting, I didn't miss one.

I replaced my tranny not too long ago so I very rarely miss a gear. One thing I noticed is that at lower RPMS I can speed shift fine. If I try to do anything over 7k it will grind into second almost every single time.

my mods are up to date in my profile. And yes I want your IM, only thing really holding my back is cash flow, but one day, yes. I saw delta's at the shootout made by you and was very impressed. My head was done by pure tuning, so I am confident it is good, could possibly be better, but I am content atm, and I personally enjoy the low torque I get form the 4-2-1's, but possibly LTH in the future.

Congrats man thats awesome, I wish I could've been there Im new to the DSM brotherhood but Ive been building mine for about 4 months now, hopefully one day we could all get out and make some runs as I see you are from Ohio as well.
Again well done very impressive:thumb:

A buddy of mine may be joining you guys. When my GST was bone stock it ran 15.1 @ 99.80 (yes high trap, not driven by me) then I bumped the boost up and laid down a 14.7. My buddy and I did some test pulls with his NA 420A and he could hang with me all the way to the middle of third gear. Plus he has done some head work since then. Unfortunately as of the last time I was at the track before tearing my build down i put down a 13.9 so we can no longer try to make a comparison. I feel he will run mid to high 14s though. Any advice for him?

He will be at the SO next year with it.
