1993 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS 2.0 DOHC Non-turbo 5-speed.

Bought her for $400 with 129K miles, non running. Since I've replaced the fuel pump (Airteck 1.5inch) and fuel filter, spark plug wires and NGK copper s-plugs.

In the process of changing these things I've been trying to start her up periodically with no success, when I decided to do a compression test (with two known working compression gauges) and got ZERO compression in all four cylinders:confused:. Engines cracking really fast too but I've never heard any abnormal noises or clanking while trying to start.

Hoping for the best, would a combination of worn rings and cracked/blown head gasket create zero compression in all cylinders?

What scenarios can create zero compression in all cylinders?

Planning to pull the engine out and completely rebuild with a $300 kit soon.

Thanks ahead for any help guys!

Wouldn't the timing belt be a good place to start looking?

I know my timing belt does have a worn groove in it, researching here leaves me to believe it's one of the oil pan screws in the wrong place rubbing it, but I haven't actually looked at the timing belt while starting it because I left the cover on :|

I'd start by pulling the timing cover and cranking it over a couple bumps to see of the cams are turning. If they are not, your crank is no longer connected to the cams by the timing belt. Even if the belt is still tight around the cam gears it could be broken down buy the balance shafts. Start pulling the head cause your need a rebuild. If the cams still turn its probably jumped time. Still requiring a head rebuild in most cases.

Yep just checked. Cams are indeed moving. Not lookin good so far then I guess. My local shop quoted me $274 for a valve job and $35 for head and valve check and $120 for over boring. reasonable prices? :hmm:

Got a shop manual. Check the timing to see if the marks line up. Just to make sure it has jumped timing before you go pulling the head. Ask around on here to see if there is any one near you that could rebuild the head. Those prices aren't bad. But its always nice to find a shop or person that knows your motor inside and out.

Lets say the timing is off, does that mean my valves are bent for sure... or is there some lee way depending how much the timing is off before the valves get bent? meaning if I go fix the timing right now is there a chance nothing was hurt and it'll get compression again?

I don't know about DSM's, but I had an older Lotus that skipped 4 teeth and it was fine. It was stated to be an interference engine.

However, if your engine has zero compression and the timing belt is connected, that means that the valves like everyone said, are probably bent. If it took a while to get some compression, then I'd say you're skipped a tooth or two. But, this sounds like a valve job.

If you get it done at a shop, make sure they're good. I've seen cars that have "Just had the head done" and we've had to regasket and machine it because it was improperly installed, machined, whatever. Don't skimp out on quality on this one.

most of the time is bent valves but on a non turbo you would still have compression in at least one cylinder unless the're bent valves in all 4 cylinders. actually in the compression tester says that its either bent valves, blown head gasket or blown rings.

As of your spark just a tip that i learned, the camsensor works spark in cylinder 1 and 4, cranksensor works spark in 2 and 3.

good luck

Yea you got some bent valves. my balance shaft belt went on my car and took the timing belt with it and it did the same thing all the intake valves where bent on mine. it may look like time belt is fine but that is what mine did the balance shaft belt got under it just enough to jump the belt did it's damage and then tightened back up. so it looked as the timing belt was okay. you can check it out here http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3319510

Put a timing belt on it. Then check compression again. You may have got lucky and it not bent the valves but I doubt it. Even if the valves were bent you would still get some kind of reading. The timing belt has to still be broken.

well a week ago i had no compression or spark in cylinder 2 and 3 i decided to take my head off and i had the 4 intake valves bent i changed them now i have compression and spark..

Damn. That sucks. Start looking for a new head. Much easier to buy a head that has good valve guides and seals rather than rebuilding yours.
