I have fuel and I have spark. But does not start.

I read thru the other threads and I know it cant be the coolant temp sensor nor the fuel filter. So anyways, this problem is for a 98 or 99 gst auto spyder. Not sure of the year because its a friends of mine. Anyway, this spyder is bare bone stock. And I mean REALLY stock. Virgin to the finger, until tonight. Anyways I was helping him install a Narrow band A/F gauge and a prosport performance volt gauge. So for my power wire I was using the ECU wire number 82 ing switch-ing. I accidently cut the wire in half and in doing so. It accidently touched bare metal. Tried to start the car and it would just turn and turn, but does not start.

So from there on I knew that I had to put that wire back together. Once I did, bam everything started fine. Turned off the car and went back to work.

I was almost done with everything. Only thing left to do was the a/f gauge, and I was going to use the wire from the a/f gauge to the ecu pinout number 75 front o2 sensor. I had that done. I tired to start the car and it would just crank. But not start. Pulled the spark plug and wires, to see if I got spark. Check, I had that. Check if I had fuel in the cylinder. Check, I had that too. Not only did I see it, but I smelt it from the back of the exhaust. So wth could be the problem!

Did you check the main fuse in the fuse box to make sure it were not popped, Being you touched a bare metal ecu wire, with metal, while the battery were still connected?

^ what he said. deffently sounds like an ecu problem. Was there any smell ? like a fishy smell

Thats what I thought too. I fried the ecu. Its the plastic one. So now my question is that can I swap one from either my gst or gsx. But their both 5 speed? and for the fuse, believe me I checked. I even pulled it out to check the continuity of the fuse.

I believe you can put an auto ecu on a manual but not the other way around.

dam that sucks....can I just swap it in there for the time being. I just need to see if it turns on. Im not going to drive it

You could try its not much work. Just be sure now hot wires are exposed (touching metal).

the GST might work, it would have to be te same year but i dont think the GSX would, my guess is the EPROM went out in the ecu ive had that problem..

Plug the ECU in and see if it works. Regardless if its for an Auto or Manual, it should at least start. And I am pretty sure it does not matter if its GSX or GST

My friends has not called me yet. But I was reading something on vfaq, It wont matter what kind of ecu is it. The ecu does not controll the shifting for the automatic transmission. its the TCU. i will let you know how it goes
