I have a few problems.

To start off, I have a '97 Eclipse GS-T.
I recently bought it, and have noticed some problems with it.

1. With the a/c on, the car idles almost at 400-500, and when I rev it, the rpms go up, then fall to zero and the car stalls. If I do this enough times (testing it), the car doesn't stay on at all, and I HAVE to rev it, just for it to idle right.

2. I have a squeaking belt. I don't know which one, but it squeaks in 1st gear when the a/c is on.

3. I think it burns oil. My friend noticed a white smoke coming from my exhaust, and a smell (like oil). Also smoking from around where the turbo is. (Rear oil seal is bad, and leaks slightly).

4. When I back up, and put it in 1st on a slight slope or hill, it doesn't want to go in gear and when I try to drive, it doesn't move and it sounds like something grinding/not connecting right inside. Then when I try and shove it in gear further (with the clutch in) it grinds. So I take it out, and put it back in. It scares me sometimes.

5. The Reverse gear. Never wants to go in, and when it does, makes a clunk sound. Sometimes, when backing up and I accelerate too much, it makes a loud clunk sound and goes out of gear.

6. Right when the car is started, a grinding or scratching sound can be heard. Right when the engine turns over.

If anybody knows what these problems are, your advice will help a lot.
-Thanks.

white smoke is coolant..
blue smoke is oil...really hard to identify..make sure..!!

+1 on adjusting you clutch..and on reading the tech articles...

The clunk sound is your transmission mounts..replace all your four mounts not only one, and the clunk should go away..!

Well, my friend noticed the smoking today. I didn't see it from my exhaust, but it was coming out near the turbo.
Yeah, that clunk sound really bothers me.

for#6 - You have a bad transmission bearing....or a bad trow out bearing..!!
what happens when you press the clutch...??does the grinding go away..!?!? or vice versa..?!?!

If the car is starting up, the clutch is pushed in. Very doubtful it is a trans bearing or throw out bearing that is making the noise. I would look more at the starter / flywheel.

Skewer

I had the same shift problem. I just put fluid in and bled the clutch and the problem went away. Could be lacking fluid. Easy problem to fix! If I were u I'd do all the maitence replace both belts! All gasgets. Tune up oil change. One thing I learned when we put the motor in. Good luck

Well, I think the ticking or knocking when I drive is the right cv joint, and I think I need a new throttle position sensor.
