I got a question regarding Greedy Intercoolers

Why do people hate Greedy inter coolers? Only thing I could find was that they heat soak quick, is there anything that proves or backs up this accusation?? Also were would I find Greedy upic pipes for a Greedy 24v?

The link I posted should help you out. Basically it sounds like it's an outdated design that flows good at the expense of cooling efficiency where as a bar and plate style core would flow less being more restrictive allowing the air more time to cool as it passes through the intercooler. Not sure where you could find the upper intercooler pipe though. I looked on eBay but didn't find anything.

That pretty much sums it up. When new those kits were around $1000, the piping was super long, and the lower pipe was tiny and designed to fit the stock turbo. I only run it because I got the core for $40.

My old car had a Greddy 18r/v what ever it is and I had heat soak issue's on a big 16G. I went to a punishment racing kit and solved all my issues. The routing is so stupid on the greddy kits also.

if your looking for the best FMIC i would personally going with a Godspeed. Greddy FMIC arent the best with cooling your turbo and they like to produce turbo lag. My Godspeed produces almost no turbo lag.

Is it possible to install the Godspeed kit and keep the OEM fog lamps? I found a kit locally for $200 never installed, originally from ebay for $400. Any ideas if this will fit with the fog lamps?

I have had the ETS race intercooler for more than 5 years with great success on my big 16g. I got a good deal from a member $500 shipped (brand new) and their was a mystery suprise in the packaging that ended up being a super afc Turned out he got an Evo 8 and no longer owned a DSM so he didn't need these.

So does that make them officially "Trust Greedy JDM"? I always thought the routing was weird and funky to the point where it might affect performance.

One thing people forget to mention is how ridiculously light the Greddy intercoolers are. If you compare it to a VRSF, the VRSF (a great bar and plate design with great routing) is stupid heavy, but thats one of the advantages to the GReddy. I love my 24v, but the routing is really long. However, in the middle of summer it was keeping my b16g perfectly cool. (you could feel the cool icyness off the cold ic piping and the heat from the hot pipes) GReddys are not bad ic's.

No one is stating that Greddy IC's aren't good. We are just stating that they are over priced for what they are. I had the Greddy hard piping kit on my stock intercooler and agree the piping is good quality. However, my ETS intercooler came with 2.5 diameter good quality piping as well and the kit is a lot less expensive than the Greddy one's. I haven't had any issues with heat soak but then again I do clean out the intercooler with gasoline once a year or so.

You guys made me curious as to what the name actually means so I made a quick stop at wiki and found:

The name originated from two words "GREAT" and "Eddy," as in a strong swirling wind current, referring to the strong swirling intake air of a turbocharger. The GR in uppercase and the eddy in lowercase to show where the two words were combined.
