so my motor is finally ready. now im trying to decide what turbo to use. my goal is 500hp. I found a guy on craigslist with a rebuilt fp red for a decent price, but i was also looking at hx40's. i plan on running e85. which of these turbos will be better for my goal?

Interesting. I was faced with the identical choice not long ago, only I had it narrowed down to the FP Red, FP 3065, and HX40.

I ultimately chose the HX40 because it's proven to spool faster and flow better in a T3 housing than the FP Red does in it's bolt-on housing. The Red has some impressive numbers, though- I actually bought one to rebuild and use a while back. It's still on the shelf.

i was leaning towards the hx40. i have read through most of the holset threads on here, but havent seen anything about the injectors people are useing

I'll probably go with 1200-1600's just to have flexibility.

A good buddy of mine is at 90% with his PTE 780's around 30psi with his HX35, so the HX40 needs much more fuel than that.

I assume your buddy is NOT using E85 amirite?

Go large on the injectors, the bigger the better. I'm using the old school 1600's and they are great with E85. The good thing about using bigger injectors is you can dial base fuel pressure down and ultimately make the injectors act smaller than they are and stretch out the length of a simple intake 255.

I am going to go with with the bluemax 1250's and a hx40. I have been looking around for a little while trying to find one. Its not as easy as i thought it would be

I am running FIC 1750's when I had the hx40. With a single wally 255 I think my inj. duty cycle was around 90+ but I was also flowing around 60lbs/min and I don't think the single wally was able to keep up.... 1600's should be fine.

60lbs? Seems like your airflow was miscalibrated. That's to much.

How is that?? I have hit 56lbs a min on a HX35 with 780cc injectors...
Every thing was calibrated perfect!

Considering my 3150lbs car trapped 129mph with that tune I think it was pretty close. I was on the 6-blade hx-40 btw..

What burnett means is that the single intank Walbro 255 runs outta steam usually around the 55 lb/min mark using E85. While every car is different, I'm at the 54 lb/min mark and at 74% IDC on my car with a single intake 255/E85/1600's. I have a feeling im right on the edge of over running it though.

129 mph trap car is ####ing moving though, so I think its safe to say your calibration is pretty close. Hahaha. 129 mph in a 3150 lb car is a solid 500-520 hp car I would imagine.

I was in cleveland a few months back in was talking to my chicks dad about cars, i hear you can find some there for cheap!
Not sure tho... just trying to help you look for some!!
I was looking for a hx35 a while back and was having trouble too!

Good Luck man!

my full weight 1g with me in it, full interior, full tank of gas, full everything went 130mph doing 11.1

I don't have near 500-520hp, probably more around the 440-460hp mark. I guess it depends a lot on driving.

I see too many '800hp' cars that trap 140, well one inperticular.. hahah... However, the hx40 seems like a good choice for 500hp.

Here is a HX-40/6blade in action... T3 BEP 0.70AR turbine..

We let off, cause it was pure 93 octane... At around 29-30 PSI. Everything else is in my profile... It goes down before 6K, imagine if I kept going !??!?!?!?:D

You may be closer to 500 than you think.

This makes me want to upgrade to the 6 blade HX40 wheel on my HX35 badly!! Haha.

fp3065 does NOT have better spool :nono: And has NEVER made more power than a .55 a/r bep housing hx40. bolton hx40 is the most potent bolton turbo out there based on numbers and results.
