I just bought a 92 GSX, but its automatic. I have been doing research and found that the automatic tranny gsx's have smaller turbos and injectors. Does an automatic gsx have potential to be pretty fast? low 14's maybe 13's without getting new turbo or injectors?

What can I do to my automatic first gen dsm to make it fast?

P.S.
I have read all the newbie guides and m odifications, but I would like to hear first hand from someone that has experience in modding an automatic turbo gsx.

Thanks,
Donald

Get your self a bigger turbo, upgrade the fuel, exhaust work, i think on the 1gs the cams are diffrent in the autos  . You can make any thing move but it depends on how big your walent/bank account is. Good Luck :thumb:

you need to read a lot of theards in the auto tranny sub forum....the 13g turbo will die quickly if you up the boost pass 16lbs or so.do the same stuff as you would if it was a manual car but instead of having to buy a clutch that will most likley give you problems buy a ipt shift kit for the tranny and have it installed..the key thing is to read another board you can join for more advice is the atdsm.com forums. i bought my auto awd as a running car for $800 just thinking i would strip it for parts, and now less then $3200 in parts later it runs 11.90s.

Just follow the tech guide for the 1G DSM's, but you might want to do the fuel or the turbo a little earlier. A 14b turbo or some sort of 16G will be good for your goals, and just go with the some 550's, a rewired 190lph, and a AFC for fuel. Do a 3 inch turbo-back, and do all of your intake work like FMIC, and piping with intake. Don;t forget the logger too. And for your auto, go with a high stall. :thumb:

Cheap mods :

3" turbo back exhaust, Even press bent it should be no more then $100.00
walbro fuel pump - 95$ brand new
mbc- 45$ brand new unless you make one or buy it used
2g manifold - $100.00 + porting to the max, done by yourself.
2 1/2" ss o2 housing, $115.00 brand new from punisment racing..

Right there is $400.00 only.

Upper intercooler pipe, You can have one made for probably $15.00, Just take your stock one to the same place you get your homemade exhaust done from..

Weight reduction? As much as you feel comfortable..

RACE GAS ... "It's addicting though so watch it.." :tease:

Then maybe a used good condition turbo/injectors/something to tune with?

You can do ALOT for very cheap, You just hafto look around and look at your options, Rather then jump right in and want to re-do something over later on..

I went from an auto to a manual in my DSM I swapped it myself. I can tell you from experience that there is no comparison the auto is way slow out of the gate unless you brake boost it. However wtih a bigger turbo like a 50 trim forget about that you can't spool it on the line, without a different TQ. Honestly the auto will never be all that you probably want. There are guys with super fast auto's out there not saying it can't be done mine was decently fast with the 50 trim and supporting mods. However after going to the 5 speed I would never own another auto in a car like this peroid. Its not even worth thinking about really for me anyways. Obvisiously I hated the manual enough to swap it out for a 5 speed. Not to many have done what I did but I had to much into the car elsewhere to just sell it for a manual so I did the grunt work and love it.

I suggest swapping in manual ECU, cams, 450cc, 14b, 2g manifold and 2.5" exhaust. They are readily available and inexpensive.

I have a A/T GSX too, so far mods are:255 Holley, Greddy E-Manage, Fuel Pressure Regulator,14 Turbo, 450cc injectors and my trans is really slowing me down. everytime i do full throttle now it gets stuck in gears and takes about 5seconds to shift. i dont really know what the problem is but something to think about. maybe my torque converter is burnt out or maybe my auto computer is done.

Think Valve Body.

Hey I am the guy with the white talon that was out at CPRacing during dyno day. For you post on Carolinadsm about what wrong with your trans and your plans for the car. Hummer and Lee's GSX are in the 10s with their autos. Also, Lee is on a stock motor, with bolt-ons and a GT35R and nitrous.

For the orginal poster either post your question in the A/T forum. Hummer and Lee's GSX are on here as well and will be able to point you in the right direction. I am in the process of building a A/T Turbo 240sx as my daily driver/strip. When I am done the Talon is going under the knife for a larger turbo and A/T.
