Dirt Oval Racing: How to make a NA Fast?

I have done some searching about dirt oval 1G's, but most of the topics are about setup and handling. I am getting into this as I race dirt modifieds and street stocks. I am tired of seeing all these Honda's at the track with their VTECHHH and bringing home trophies every night in their FWD class.

I would like to state that this class does NOT allow forced induction and the car has to be FWD. Tracks have their own set rules about what you can and can't do with the engine. Most tracks require you to be under a certain compression (compression test).

A mostly stock NA 4G63 is going to be under-powered against the VTECH guys. I know how to make our Turbo 4G63's fast, but I am asking for your help on the NA 4G63. Here is what I am thinking.

Turbo ECU, turbo wiring harness, turbo MAF, turbo injectors, and a turbo injector resistor pack. Basically, I am looking for a turbo DSM shell and rebuild a NA 4G63.

Do I use a knock sensor? I would imagine I would need a knock sensor in order for the car to run half descent. BUT, with the turbo ECU, I will be getting a LOT more timing. Like, damn close to detonation. So with that said, would retarding the timing via the CAS be enough adjustment? Or could I run no knock sensor, thus causing the ECU to pull timing, and get the car to run half descent?

I would imagine DSMlink would be extremely useful. But would it solve all of my concerns?

Is there anything else I have not taken into consideration?

I kind of want to get a 2G turbo shell and drop in the NA 4G63. 2G's are wider, but they are also heavier. And I just think it would be really cool to have a NA 4G63 2G :rocks:

Circle track racing around here is supposed to be 100% stock. They just don't know that my 272's aren't stock :)

But to be completely serious if your looking to be competitive in a hornet class get a Saturn sc2 or a neon. Our cars run good on dirt but nowhere near as good as the Saturn and neon

Around here neons get stomped its all area specific. Neons are lap traffic at my home tracks even the one that states to be completely stock I have never seen a Saturn run so I cant say any thing about them. now ive heard of people dominating other places in neons so your best bet is to go watch the local races some figure out what cars are quick in your area and go from there.
 
The neons have to be the right neons and set up right. The 2 door neons suck unless they put the 420a in it. I run a 1g at my local track.

ok here's my question why not run a 2g talon with 420a I knew the fast neon's were 420a they still don't do good which I don't under stand why cars are fast some places and not others other then gearing and maybe SAI has a role in it at certain tracks. are western tracks banked a lot more maybe.
 
I'm thinking the gearing In the neon tranny makes them faster around here... I'm not sure. Theybdo walk on the nt 2gs though
 
I race asphalt with my 92 eclipse . I swapped my engine and trans to the 2008 4g69 mivec . 162 hp 162 tq stock , I won 8 out of 14 races with it this year . Very fast

How difficult was the swap? You got any pics of this?
 
I do have pictures , but dont know how to put them on here . Wasnt too bad . Had to make all the mounts . I used the lancer ralliart axles and they fit right in .
 
a 4g69 would be a cool build alternative, aftermarket parts are probably little harder to find though.

Ive always wondered about this. Ill take a note on the axels part. thought about trying to put mivec head on 4g64 idk if it would work though. Its hard to insert pics best way is just to link to a site if you have a site with them in it.
 
Doing some reading last night and the evo head bolts onto the 69 block. The 69 block has same deck height as the 4G63 evo block. The 4G64 block is a taller block.

So if anyone does happen to do this swap you have options. But from what I read the 69 is a pretty badass engine from the factory. The whole shortblock assembly is lighter. Meaning crank, pistons, and rods.

I got pics of JW-9's swap. Ill try to get them posted here for you guys.
