like the title says how can i get a big 16g to spool faster? i just installed one along with a full 3" exhaust. the power it incredible! 280hp or so with very little tuning theres more to be had only running 20psi and getting 29lb/min so somethings choking it. however its a DD and now on the low end it feel almost like my t25 before i replaced the stock bov. any tuning tips for a faster spool? was thinking tubular manifold, i'd like to build one regardless but will that do the trick? intake maybe?

so far: dsmlink, big 16g, slightly ported 2g manifold (step removed), 3in exhaust and tubular o2 housing, supporting fuel mods, ebay bov and upic.

i'll give it a month-ish of playing with it but at this point i may just rebuild my 14b and stick that in there but i hate to give up that top end power. any ideas?

Go stroker that will make it spool faster.Have you already upgraded to a hard pipe intake? and a tubular manifold will not make you spool faster. If your not happy with that turbo downgrade to a small 16g or t28.

what i'm looking for is that instant boost of the t-25, i know i won't get the same spool but i'd like something similar.

When in your powerband in a third gear pull do you see 15 (or 20) PSI? You may have a pre-turbo exhaust leak, or a boost leak.

just the upic 2.5" and a j pipe, i'd rather not drop a whole new motor in. at least not on my budget. (what i mean is i'd love to but can't)

powerband meaning 3-4k? at 3 i'm seeing more like 10 or 12psi. if i drop it into 2nd i'll get that instant boost but if i do that in traffic im gone.

Only way I could think of is if you found a metal by pass valve and crushed it (granite know what you are doing) if you do it correctly and don't kill it, it will spool and boost much faster

i've added as much timing as i can down low before it starts knocking under high load and free revs. i'll try first making a set of hard ic pipes and intake see if it'll help. the only reason i say switch to a 14b is that i have one it just needs a rebuild. i know there are better turbos for what i want, small 16, t28, etc. keep the suggestions comming something may spark a good idea that'll make me keep it. :)

The cyclone intake has been proven to reduce spool by 300-1000 rpm depending on the turbo/setup

The OP has a 2g. The Cyclone intake is an upgrade for the 1g head.

To get the car to spool faster you could try porting the head, get an EVO3 or RVR intake manifold, get some cams, there's nitrous that'll help you spool too... If you are still running the sidemount intercooler you might want to think of upgrading to a front mount or a Supra Side Mount. It'll hurt spool a little but at 20psi on a 16g you're probably heatsoaking the stock intercooler.

yea running nirtous and alchohol on a street DD doesn't sound like the best idea LOL. i thought it over today and i think i'm gana downgrade to the 14b. but while i have the 2 turbos i was thinking hybrid. i know the 7cm 16g exhaust haousing on a 14b is good for performance but not so much for my spool problem. how would the big 16 compressor do with a 14b hotside? would that be too much load?
my stock sidemount is probably why i'm only seeing 29lb/min and also the maf. but speed density and a frontmount won't give me what i'm looking for in spool i don't think.

was considering cams too.., not complaining about the power, not at all. just in traffic on the street its a bit sluggish, that is unless i drop it way down into 2nd gear. maybe just have to get used to a diffrent driving style..

its only been a week of driving i'll give it time before i start tearing into it.

if you want faster spool, then use back the 14b hot side with the b16g. That will improve spool significantly, you will peak earlier tho but still better than with 14b.

had ported it a bit (more of a polish) b/c i had to weld the cracks in the turbine housing.

thats what i wanted to know if a 14b hot side b16g compressor hybrid would work well, i should then definatley go with a ported wastegate to make up for loss of turbine flow right?

do i have to use the 14b turbine wheel? that housing won't fit over the 16g wheel will it?

you wanna port the wastegate to reduce creep or better to go external. The 14b housing will fit just fine as it is, both are 05H turbine.

id say spare the pain of making yourself a turbo sell the big 16 and get a small 16, spool faster with some what same ratings. hard pipe your intake, tubular intake and stroker = very efficiant spool
