Edmonton,
I just bought a 92 tsi awd, I'm completely rebuilding the engine and drive train, and i want to mak e between 450 and 500 hp. Keep in mind that I want to keep it streetable and take it to the track on the weekends. I'm rebuilding the engine with evo3 pistons and 1g big rods, that should take my comp from 7.8 to 8.5 or so. The crank is good and true so it's just getting a balance. I also have A 91 tsi awd for parts.

So manly I'm asking the following:
What turbo, I want to stay mitsu, mabye a 20g?
What size injectors, 650-750cc's?
is a 255 fuel pump enough?
I'm going to swicth to a GM maf and translator, am I going to need any more fuel managment?
A front mount cooler is already in the works.

Any other suggestions would be great, 6 grand is my budjet for the engine and drive train:dsm:

Honestly, a reputable trans shop whether it's shep or jacks we all know you are going to get a quality rebuild. But we all agree that the first step in building a 500hp dsm is to get that weak tranny out of there and put something in thats going to handle the power. Actually a was reading an article in january's addition of modified and their is a red talon in there, that guy knew what he was doing. He made 485 on stock block with a shep stage 4 w/o the welded 4 spider. So it shows you that the money is better spent in the tranny then the engine.

Yes and in this months Modified mag there is a 2g with like 800 hp. And the first 3rd gear pull on the dyno he stripped all the teeth off of 3rd gear. Guessing stock tranny. LOL

That 2g is on my local forums. He goes by gastroker on the boards. That car is a monster! It ran like a 9.2 without the help of nitrous. OMG

Anything over 400HP at the wheels is SCARY fast. One of my buddies first Gen Eclipse is running 430-440. The lower 400's It is scary fast. With his additional injectors he still manages to get 20 mpg on a good day running his setup. He has rebuilt the motor twice running in the low 400's When you are that high up little things cause problems like timing , and resonance. He name is Cameron on StreetCarForums

hey so a little late on the conversation but i am currently building a similar project. i have a 1g motor balance shaft removal kit. scat rods, malley pistons .020 over, arp main and head studs, cometic tripple layer steel head gasket, 1mm oversized valves, 418 ( or so big lift ) cams and a fully built head from a reputible head shop. i use the apexi avr digital boost controller.
my down fall : a fwd stock tubo no fmic
upside : 100 bucks just bought me a 92 awd dsm with a close to mint chasis ( scratch on dr side door and one control arm bushiung has some play. minor issues. ) and a blown motor and trans .
i am currently in the process of ordering : dsm link, with gm maft, a body kit from kgs engeneering, a new trans ( well used and sent away to be rebuilt ) turbo and fmic kit and injectors and ignition ( cop ) i plan to do the swap by beginning to mid april. if anyone has any good used parts ie. turbo awd trans and tcase and fmic kit that would be awesome if u could let me know. if not any suggestions would be great. im kinda trying to reach a 450 to 500 hp area i know the motor will stand up and if i get the trans done properly then my biggest down fall will be add on parts. any suggestions on anyhting else or anything i should keep in mind would be awesome
thanks

Wow, back from the dead. I see this so often, the 230 whp on a 800hp capable block. Everyone spending lots of cash to build their six bolt, then running short on power mods. A freshened up six bolt is rock solid at 450-500 whp. Unless you are looking for a definite 550+ whp, forget a forged 6bolt setup. What you have spent so far could have you an actual 0 mile 4-500 hp engine, complete with turbo.
