How "streetable" is a 6 puck unsprung? MB1-HDR6

I'm currently lookin at some ACT kits and I'm wondering how harsh it is when using the 6 puck unsprung vs. the sprung street disc.


I need feedback from those who have used the 6 puck, and not those who have the street disc. Any input will be appreciated though. Thanks guys! :dsm:
 
ACT street discs arent worth a darn these days. Take a look around at some of the threads here on tuners. I had 2 go out on me in 20k with no warranty given. I am using an exedy 3 puck cerametallic with an ACT flywheel now and I LOVE it. The car is daily driven as well.
 
What you have to relise is that puck clutches you will find are harsh they are either in or out! i have gone through two of them(springs break out) and now am using a upgraded lined disc and have found it a lot more streetable and had no prob's yet 342 whp. not putting down the puck clutch plates but they are shit in traffic! Each to their own.
 
I have ran ACT and clutchmasters unsprug discs. 4 puck, 6 puck and 3 puck. I will tell that they work fine on the street but wear out very quick. The problem is that the splines that hold the disc to the trannys input shaft will stip out and the clutcch will start to wobble and might blow up. I would stay far away.
 
I have had the following clutches....

ACT2600 with ACT street disk
ACT2600 with 2G disk
ACT2100 with ACT 6 puck disk
Stock PP with ACT 6 puck disk
Centerforce Dual Friction PP and disk
CFDF Dual Friction PP and 2G disk

The best clutch I had was the 2600 with the ACT disk. I still have it in my current car and it has at least 30k on it, driven hard and no complaints.

The 6 puck was really harsh and had a lot of "coast down noise" because of its undamped nature. I would not reccomend it. It did grip very well and you could slip it really nice if you knew how but it was not very friendly. It also ate a brand new flywheel. If I had it to do over again I would get a sprung hub clutch for sure and be more inclined to get an organic, vs a metallic, lining.

thx for the input guys. I've since decided to stick with the MB1-HDSS kit.

For those that don't know, it's the heavy duty (2100) pressure plate with the pro street disc.

Thx again guys. Now I gotta spend ~450 bucks to get the damn thing installed since I can't do it myself, and another ~50 bucks to resurface the fly.

I have a freshly resurfaced flywheel stepped properly for sale if you need one, 6bolt :) Have a new clutch too, 6puck sprung.
