Hey guys my car is just about done, just have a few wires to redo and bolt on the alternator, o2 housing, and ac system. Im out of money and dont have enough for cams so im going to be running a completely stock 91 6 bolt motor with my holset, and i was wondering if anyone has any info on how much the stock head is going to hurt me up top.

I dont mean to turn this into a bench racing thread of how much hp will I make and what will it run because ill go to the track to find that outm myself

Mod list is: hx35 8 blade twin scroll hotside
880 pte injectors
dsmlink v2.5 full
255 fuel pump
4" fmic
fuel lab fp reg
arp headstuds
comp stage 5 4 puck
Just kind of curious if anyone has ran a stock head and had any luck with it? I figure the car wont be able to rev much past 7k with the stock head which will hurt the holset as it will still love to climb higher... I know with a build head my setup is capable of 420+ whp I still think with the stock long block the car should be capable of 11.90s.

Like I said this is NOT meant to be a bench racing thread at all Just looking for some answers on how much i will be losing with the stock head. :)

The stock head is more than adequate for your setup. You can rev it up to 7500-8k on stock springs, or throw in a set of OEM EVO springs and have a bit more safety margin. The Holset won't love revving much over 7k anyway if you're still on the stock cams and intake manifold, I'd be much more concerned about replacing those than digging into the head at this point.

Ya that's what I got from reading forums also I really wish I could get a nice set of 272s I already have a set of crower springs and retainers but don't want to dig into the head on the car I have a spare head I'm slowly building.. I'm hoping with the stock head I can still approach 400whp on mustang dyno and dip into the 11s... That's my goal with stock head I still think it should be possible with my mods

With that turbo I don't see why you won't hit 11s. A local dsm guru here that I've been learning from ran a 11.9 on his the e3 16g back in 98 or 99 I believe, granted it was not the smartest thing to boost 25+lbs on he stock sidemount and 550s, he pulled it off... The only asian guy in town that builds a dsm instead of a honda and I see why from the video and newspaper he showed me from the event he got 2nd place with that set up. I'm pretty sure you can hit low 11s... he was all stock besides those mods, full 3", stock head, block, walbro 190 and a black box power translator.

I don't know about low 11s that's gonna need high 400s whp to get there and that's not gonna happen on pump gas with stock cams :/ my car is my daily so it will be run on pump gas only if it goes 11s ill be happy as can be 11.9 is my goal as of now bone stock 6 bolt motor

A stock auto head can do 10s with enough boost and fuel. And for most of the dsmers on this site the stock head is the best option.I think if you added a set of cams you should be closer to your hp goal, but maybe not with those smaller injectors IDK

11.9 is a mild goal for 420hp and hx35 LOL.

I dont think my car will make that kind of power on a mustang dyno LOL i was thinking 390s at BEST really just wish i could get a set of cams to really maximize my power i could make along with some bigger injectors..

The injectors i have came off of an evo that made 450whp and went 11.50s i think it should be enough fuel for what im trying to do. Glad to know the head will not be too restrictive with the setup i have :)

We have been doing 8500 rpm for years with stock springs, stock head castings and stock intake manifolds. And we have made serious power on each car that had a real turbo. We even made 816hp an revved to 9000rpm with stock shimmed springs and a stock intake.

Damn, ok, i thought the record for stock IM was in the 650whp range. You blew that outta that water.

OP: Get a set of crower 272s, theyre kind of mild. Some stiffer springs and dont rev it out past 8k often. Im on a stock exh mani and a 63 a/r dsm PTE so im choked up up top anyway. A t3 mani with a hx35 and you could make solid power up til 7500 and b on the safe side. The IM stock is obviously fine for your goals.

I dont have the money for cams thats the whole reason for this post LOL I really dont have the money for them its not going to happen this year :/ ill get some over this winter when i build the car. its nice to know the stock head can rev up pretty decent and will be perfect for what my holset is capable of... maybe im underestimating what kind of power and times the car will be able to make?

Dude, you'll be fine. The turbo is the #1 factor on where you power lies, followed by cams and intake.

I run delta regrinds in the HKS272 variety...How much do you think they actually help? I doubt it's much.

IMHO for making 420whp, I'd skip the twin scroll and run a bolt on housing.

What fuel are you going to run?

Ill be running pump gas 93 oct. I highly highly doubt it would make 420whp on a mustang dyno I would be more than happy with 390whp which I think is attainable. I was going to get a bolt on housing but already have everything for the twin scroll so I'm going to run that for the summer

Stop fixating on horsepower numbers. It will end up where it ends up. I say go for the T3 housing. It will set you up for future growth. The twin scroll thing is no big deal anyway. We mix and match open and divided turbos and manifolds all the time with success. Build the car and enjoy it. Don't expect much and just push it as far as you can. Easier to enjoy things that way.

This. A dyno is a tool to measure delta. If you want 400hp out of the car, just have the operator tweak the load/correction. BAM. Bragging rights.

Of course, you'll still run a REAL number at a track...

^^^. This is true. I've ran mid 13's and md 10's on my 600+ hp car. Granted, launching on street tires is a real PIA with this much hp, but you get the point.

Also don't compare your car to an Evo, 2 completely different animals.

I run the car at the track all the time LOL by car probably has 150 passes on it since I got it! Tho I don't know how many times I'm going to be able to run the car at the track before the stock trans gives way LOLol
