How long does High hp engines last?

Just woundering, How long do engines with like 500-600 whp usaly last.. I know the life of the engine isnt as long with more power, just woundering ABOUT how long they can last

what kind of build are you looking for, im sure if you build an engine to support 600 whp and you only throw 400-475 at it it will last quite some time. Id be more worried about the tranny going out from the increased power than the engine not holding up

as long as its been put together good, maintained, and you dont bash on it all the time i wouldnt see why i wouldnt last as long as a stock engine

I can build a motor for under 1K that will easily support 600hp like stock. It doesn't take much when I have done it on even a stock block 35r and 40r setup..

Besides maintenance the biggest killer will be revs... If you can make that power under 8.5K your motor will be happy. The first things to go are the bearings. That normally due to high revs and heavy rod/piston combos. Those of us using lighterweight pistons and aluminum rods have noticed that bearings come out looking brand new, even when shifting at higher 9K+ RPMs.

I agree. How you put the engine together is very important. Parts need to be PERFECT for each other in order to achieve ulimate efficiency. The raw material the block and head are made out of are only designed to hold so much power though, no?

The 4g63 block is very beefy. You can run a full water jacket at 600hp. Anything more than that I would consider filling some of it if you want to keep it streetable, and not a once down the track and shut it down. Keeping the revs below 8.5, a SPOT ON tune, and oil go a long way. And like stated before, the stock transmissions will go first at 600hp before a well cared for long block does.

the build of the motor along with the quality of parts being used is key. what it really comes down to is how it's treated. if it's seeing 600hp all the time and it's not specificaly built for race only venues, it's not going to last a long time. if it's treated to see all 600hp on a limited basis, then it will go the distance.

I wonder how long that aluminum rod will last?

engine longevity is usually based on how good the tune is and peoples driving habits. but i know people that have 550whp cars that they have been daily driving for 2.5 years aswell and tracked then occasionally. i hope this helps.
