I just recently bought my 1g dsm for $700 so you know it comes with problems LOL so my question is how long do I have to wait before changing my oil. I rarely use her because she isn't my daily driver so I can't go by miles so I have to go by time. I used Mobil 1 10w-30 synthetic oil with Mobil 1 extended performance filter? Thanks in advance, sorry if this question has been asked before I just couldn't find anything

Honestly there isn't a straight answer on when you should change it. I know guys that run synthetic to 5000 miles between oil changes but I also know guys that change the oil every 2000 miles. I personally don't put many miles on my car so it works out that I change it at the beginning of every spring. If I were to drive my car year round, I would change mine every 3000 miles but sooner if I was hard on it like going to the track.

I rarely drive it since it's mostly under construction right now and want to replace all the belts and tensioners before I start driving it a bit more. Right now it's probably used like 10 miles a month or so. I wasn't sure when I should replace the oil since I know it also goes bad by just sitting there

This entirely depends on how you drive your car. If your seeing boost all the time, change it sooner. If you drive like a grandma (pretty sure none of us in these cars) then change it sooner. I run rotella t5, I love the diesel oil stuff

Depends on what you use it for or how often but even 6 months/3k miles (whichever comes first) I've found to be perfect, with no problems. Also, Check your oil every week to see if you are losing some due to leaks.

Stock car using synthetic oil should be every 5k/6 months. That number goes down once you start modding, tuning, driving hard, driving in extreme conditions. (heat/cold) I change mine every 2500 and empty the catch cans as well. Once in a while I'll just drain the oil and leave the filter.

yeah I changed my valve cover gasket before I did the oil change since I know it was bad already and replaced the oil cap. I even got the little half moon replaced to a metal one instead of the rubber one it had. Okay thanks guys. I'll try to do the 6month/5k miles since I literally drive it no more than 20 miles a month

On a side note. I sent oil samples of both Mobil 1 full synthetic and VR1 conventional to Blackstone labs. the results surprised me: there were much fewer traces of wear metal when using the VR1, they were actually lower than the universal averages. The Mobil 1 showed higher than normal copper content.
