I did some searching and didn't come up with anything.

Anyways, How do you install the pilot bushing In the back of the crank?? Does anyone have any experience replacing their pilot bushing for an auto?

All input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

The pilot bushing is what is holding the converter centered. It is literally in the center of crank where the bolts hold the flexplate on

After getting the old one out it should be a matter of gently hammering the new one in. Tap a little on one side, then on the other, that way it's going in straight. Better yet, get a piece of wood and put on the bushing so you are not hammering on it directly. Be sure to clean out the hole that the bushing goes into.

You can also freeze the bushing for a duration of time first to help aid the process of installation.

Well my engine that Im installing (accually both of my cars) didn't have a pilot bushing in either of them :ohdamn:.. one came out of a manual car the other just didnt get put back together right by the previous owner.

So how long should I freeze the pilot bushing before I try to tap it in with wood and a hammer?? Is it a pain in the a** to tap the new one in? Or should it tap in fairly easy?

When I put mine in, it literally took 10 seconds. I put the wood over top of it and tapped it in. Some people like to fill the hole with grease and have the pilot bushing go in easier pushing all the remains out

That's great to hear!! I'm glad it shouldnt be too hard.

Do I have to take my flexplate back off? Or can I install it with the flexplate on?

I honestly am not sure, I didn't have a flex plate on at the time, but I would assume you probably need to take the flex plate off. I'm not 100% on that though

Not sure if your can do it with the flex plate in but it doesnt take long at all to put it. If needed put alittle grease on it to aid it going in easily. But ive always done it with the flex plate off.

Flexplate can stay on the crank end.

Gotta have the tranny out along with the TC. A little hooked device is what removes the pilot bushing from the pump housing.

True, the rubber mallet and board trick is one way to press in a pilot bushing back in the pump housing.
