So I have a 4g63t engine.So how can you tell by looking at the block?I seen a 1997 block for sale but wanted to be sure it fit.also found a 6bolt block but will a 6 bolt crank,piston and rod fit my block 4g63t 7 bolts block?
 
You have a 7 bolt, swap a 1G if desired.
 
You have a 7 bolt unless it has been swaped! A 6 bolt can be installed with a few mods.

I changed the title.So will a 6 bolt block work without buying or changing anything else real low on money so I need to just get this car running.Will the wire harness fit
 
Well if your low on money i dont sugest doing a 6 bolt swap. Find a 7 bolt. I know the 6 bolt is going to have some different sensors and may require moding your harness or having to get one for the 6 bolt
 
Trust me a 6 bolt swap is not easy nor cheap. Your going to need to find the motor and then engine harness just for starters. Plus there is some rewireing involved. I did a 6bolt swap about 3 years ago and it worked out great i make alot of power and its very reliable, but it cost me almost 10,000 for everything and to have it installed. Also another note, if your car is after 95 then you will have trouble getting it inspected. Your cam angle sensor needs to be rewired and it throws a check engine light. If you get dsmlink you can turn it off but you will still have inspection problems. In my opinion I would have built a 7 bolt worried about crank walk later and just been able to inspect it easily... if anyone has inspection tips please let me know.

Why would you bother with a 6 bolt swap when a 7 bolt will handle all the power 95% of DSMers need? It will be easier, take less time, and cheaper. Twicks is making stupid power with a modified 7 bolt, stock 7 bolt has made 500hp, even EVO's come with 7 bolts. Nothing wrong with a 7 bolt!

Seems like a lot of people are hung up on the 6 bolt swap. 6 bolts do have stronger internals, but most people won't use them, and once you get past the limits of a good tune on a 7 bolt you may as well get aftermarket parts for either the 6 or 7, and there's no reason to not go with the 7.
 
Why in the world did it cost 10 grand?

For 10 grand he better have a 9 sec car, anyway a 6bolt swap is well worth it, mine cost me about $500-$600; and thats because I paid a friend to help me out. You can gather parts you need rather cheap.

You dont use a 1g wire harness just the cas. Look into why you should get a 6-bolt, maybe just build up the 7-bolt and have the best of both worlds. Crankwalk is overrated, and the only reason a 6-bolt is better when stock is that it has stronger rods and thicker head bolts, period. :thumb:

I charge people $500 to swap in a 6-bolt. It takes about 4-5 hours.
