My hood was getting hot enough to boil water off the paint so i thought some vents would help, and a nice intake vent for some lower It's.

the way you have the vents sunk down in te front helps with the air flow threw the radiator. i ike the designe. the under hood temp should drop a few degrees with that mod. make shure you get the edges of the sheet metal covered god so it dont rust out. i would try to put some type of mesh in the opening of the gap if you dont want leafs and stuff getting all in the engine bay and possibly catching on fire.

Is that intake vent even anywhere near your intake? I'm not a huge fan of dicing up stock hoods.

I'm guessing you didn't have the aluminum/fiberglass heat shield under the hood?

And do you have BOTH the exhaust manifold and o2 housing heat shields in place?

With that design... I would put one additional vent that size at the front directly over the turbo. Kinda like where us guys with carbontrix hood vents placed ours. You'll see some hood vent alterations I did in my pics.

heres a engine pic to set this strait , tubular and custom down pipe/o2 and yes my intake is there and yeah i really need some mesh, im gonna make rubber plugs to stop the rain. Also i measured them out so one is right behind the manifold, and the other right behind the vc. Test drove it today in 20'C and it stayed at a decient 180 degrees so it definitly was working. I definitly need to clean it up though and reinforce it.

Ah I see that now. The first vent is farther forward than I thought. It's easier to see in the newest pics you posted. Well I like it. It's easier to see the functionality of it when seeing your underhood layout. Good deal.

Looks awesome. I have been thinking of doing something like this to my hood.

I would really like to know why you have your intake right next to the motor. It's already hot there so why are you allowing more heat to absorb into the intake. IMO it would be better in the stock location with a cold air box. You should at least get your intake wrapped in heat reflecting tape.

thanks for the comments, besides ripping on my hood LOL yeah its a bad spot for an intake it gets way to hot but my fuse box,bov and ic piping took up the space to make a box there, im gonna cover it some time with something and make a box that uses the new vent.

And the tb cover i made from sheet metal and just bent it to fit

I have since given my carbontrix hood vent to a Dsm buddy and bought a VIS evo cf hood. The carbontrix vent just can't compete with the venting on the cf hood. The vent is huge. It's setup well to scavenge heat out. And the entire rear of the hood stands up an inch taller than the stock hood so it also helps suck air out right in front of the cowl.
As far as all the underhood heat sheilding etc. I think it's a better idea to get rid of the heat than stuff it in a container and keep it in.

Ceramic coating that manifold and turbo would help a lot with your temps.

Good job on the hood though!

Yeah I like yours, nice layout. I would suggest adding a lip to the leading front upper edge. I had a oil leak the other day at the OFH and it sprayed on the windshield! That means it pulling air from the engine bay and I didn't have to do the silly yarn test.:p

I absolutly love the idea, and also love the design..My only Question is this..What about rain? You dont want rain getting in your engine bay possibly and possibly into your maf..
I alwasy wondered if the evo guys had a problem with rain as well, with the cutouts in their hoods..

yeah that what im still trying to figure out to, every time it does rain my vc fills up with water and it drips on the mani to. I could put baffles or something to catch and divert the rain but then its blocking the heat in?

Thats the by-product of functional hood vents. I just don't drive my car in the rain. IF yours is a DD your going to have to come up with some kind of drip rail to catch the rain but at the same time venting the hot air. The VC filling with water is quickly going to short, ground your plug wires.
