I just picked up a machined 7cm turbine housing off of ebay for cheap.
Its in very good shape, no cracks at all. But I have no idea what it was bolted on to.

I know a lot of the vendors used the machined mitsu housings back in the day, before cast bolt-on housings became popular. But after searching I can very little info on them.

The exit of housing, where the exducer would fit in measures 2.295".
Minus 2.228" for a T31 76 trim "Stage 3" turbine wheel, gives 0.033" clearance around the wheel.
Is this close to the correct amount of clearance?

The other side of the housing where the heat shield would fit in behind the turbine wheel measures 2.907". And the inside of the "V-band" clamp where the CHRA fits measures 3.168".
Anyone know what CHRA would fit this? Are all of the T31 CHRAs one standard size?

Also does anyone remember what some of the old turbos with the machined housings were named? It would help me a lot in searching.
Or does anyone recognize the v-band clamp?

Thanks.

Most of the older machined turbos were milled to accept tdo6 or tdo6h turbine wheel. Some of the old school machined turbos went by the name Frank, G-pumper, and the FpGreen and Red.

OMG!!! That looks like a Turbine housing off an OLD Extreme Turbo MUTT!! That housing was machined to accept a Garrett T3 style center section. The clamp in the picture is what REALLY gives that away.

Thanks for the help guys.

Are all the T3 CHRAs the same dimensions? I've messed around with a lot of mitsu turbos, but haven't played with any garretts yet. I know there is a lot more variety with the garretts and didn't know if they are all the same size, like TD05H CHRAs are all identical. I don't want to pick up a CHRA that won't fit my v-band clamp.

My current setup is a Small 16G with a external wastegate on the O2 housing, true 3" O2 housing(3" inlet and exit), 3" downpipe, 3.5" catback, stock manifold. I also had to do an alternator relocation for everything to fit.

This setup has really fast spool up and hits real hard. But lacks serious top end.

I'm looking for a turbo that hits hard like the 16g, but with more top end. And it has to be swapable with my 16g without changing any other parts.

After searching I found the ETE-32 aka Mutt-3:
T04E Compressor Cover
50 Trim Compressor Wheel
T31 76 trim "Stage 3" Turbine Wheel
7cm Turbine Housing

It has fast spool up for a 50 trim, good with pump gas, and potential for real top end power.
It only bad thing I see with it is you have dent the waterpipe pretty much.

What would you guys recommend if you were piecing together a turbo and had a Stage 3 turbine to work with? Something in the 20G range.

IPT I noticed you have a Secret Spec To4E Turbo in your profile, you have any secrets you could pass on to a garrett newbie?:)

Thanks again for the help.

God that was four turbos ago. I guess I should change that. There is one thing that I do believe you will have problems with. The old Mutt turbos had a spacer ring that went betweek the CHRA and the turbine housing (it side over the heat shield.) SO unless you have that you may not be able to make that turbine housing work for you.
