If my O2 housing has atmospheric dump then do i need a wastegate or??? i dunno. what are the benefits of having an atmospheric dump versus an O2 housing that doesnt. is it better to get an exhaust that has an O2 eliminator like the full buschur racing 3 " racing kit. let me know.
 
As far as I know most turbos come with an internal wastegate, when that waste gate opens up it goes through the dump on the atmoshperic dump. The advantage to this is it will help you fight against boost creep as your exhaust gets bigger or as you start porting things. And the o2 eliminator vrs o2 dump ehh i see them as the same except with one you might flow alittle buit better since its one solid peice, butthats me .02.
 
I'm guessing you are talking about an internally gated turbo - If you have tried porting and have boost creep and want to dump (which is not street legal) then you can dump from your o2.

If you are talking about an externally gated turbo - and if you put an external gate on your o2 housing, then you will need custom piping to re-route it back to your exhaust.
 
Assuming you're talking about internally gated O2 dump, most people either dump for the annoying sound :p or were mislead into thinking it will solve boost creep when in reality, it plays an insignificant roll in solving boost creep in most cases.

If you're looking for performance, go with a tubular o2 or o2 eliminator dp that routes back. If you're looking to eliminate boost creep, proper porting of the turbine housing or external wastegate would be the right way to go.
 
so whats my best bet? should i get like an EVO III O2 housing or should i just vent to the atmosphere. im going to be going with an Evo III turbo ported with an internal wastegate.

1. Boost creep : Do not pay for a vendor port job as most only addresses spool up time and will not solve boost creep. Use the money instead to buy porting tools so you can port it yourself like described here and here.

2. O2 housing : If you're set on the dump noise, then dump (You still need to go through step one because the key in solving boost creep is in the proper porting of the turbine housing, not whether or not you dump). If you're more performance minded and find the noise distasteful, you can go with one of the following three options.

A. An EVO3 O2 and port it like described here.

B. A 2.5" tubular O2 that re-circulates.

C. An O2 eliminator DP that re-circulates.

Note: If you choose to go with B and C, be careful not to over port the wastegate path on the turbine housing because you will not be able to port much on either the tubular o2 or eliminator DP. At the same time if you choose to go with A, you can go ahead and enlarge the path some, just make sure it mates up perfectly with the EVO3 o2 and the gasket. Good luck.
 
just wondering .for all you guys running an o2 atmospheric dump.is it loud all the time,only under boost,or only when pulling vacuum.or only when the waste gate opens to release boost.I was thinking about getting one.
 
its loud at WOT (full boost).

Doesnt the evo o2 housing require a different DP flange?

What's up rowlex it's been a while. Thanks for pointing that out and yes, the evo3 o2 does require the DP flange to be welded at a slightly different angle. One would have to either modifield the existing DP or get one pre-made, I believe RRE makes one.
 
SO what would everyone suggest venting to atmosphere? nonported/ported 2G atmospheric dump, Evo III ported/nonported or just getting an exhaust with an O2 eliminator?

can you describe the sound it makes when you vent to the atmosphere with the O2?

Ok i think your mixing it up a bit here, to dump your wastegate to the atmos. you need either a tubular o2 that is pre-made to dump to the atmosphere, or you need to cut a large hole in your stock o2 housing and weld a pipe to it.

here is a picture of mine on my old evoIII 16g.

you see the pipe that is open and doesn't go anywhere? That is where your wastegate is and that is the dump. If you want to hack up a stock o2 and dump it, it will end up looking similar to that pipe.

EDIT: to answer more of your questions: if you want to hear an atmospheric dump, I have two clips of my old setup, msg me on aim or send me an email and I will send them to you email: [email protected]

Anyway if you want to dump it, buy a tubular o2 housing, if you want an expensive one go to an expensive vendor, if you want a cheap one that will do the job (and by the way I dont think their is some science to an o2 dump or tubular o2, so they should ALL perform very similar to each other) punishmentracing.com is where I got mine, and it has held up just fine. I think the 2.5" mild steel tubular dumped o2 is like ~$150 or less. I would suggest staying away from the evo o2 housing because of it's requirement of a different DP flange, so if you ever want to change setup's that will have to be changed accordingly. Performance wise you probably will not notice a difference between the 2g ported and evo o2. a tubular would be a good choice. especially for your current turbo which I assume to be a stock 14b?

Hey oldman; I see a lot of your boost creep threads and have been reading them as well. I lost interest in the evoIII 16g, it just didnt have the power I was looking for. I ended up selling it and my old injectors and picking up a 60-1 and 780's OMG LOL! I can't wait to get it done :) How's your rig?

It just never ends does it? ROFL My issue turned out to be more than just turbo, the valve seals were done as suspected. One of another wiseman is rebuilding a complete race head for me which I'm expecting to receive sometime next week. Along with FP2s, it should be fun. :rocks:

haha...apparently it doesn't I see you really know. I hope to stop wasting money on the car and buy a bike soon. You will have to post info & any numbers you can on the cams. Those are the ones I am looking at too :thumb:

Is there any disadvantage to re-circulating with 500-550whp? Because I would like to re-circulate as long as it will not cause me any neagtive effects. Obviously I'm running an external gate if you're wondering.

There will be a time when re-circulating becomes a performance issue. Would that time be 500-550whp? I honestly don't know but it would be the same time you max out a 3" exhaust. I would think that once you're at that level, you should either be running a external setup or it's not a daily driver that the noise is no longer a factor.
