What's up tuners, so I've been having this problem for multiple times now. I do a boost leak test and I hear bubbling coming from the oil pan. The sound isn't all crazy but it makes the bubbling sound 1 time every 1-2 seconds. I've rebuilt the turbo, and still there, bought a rebuilt Evo 3 16G turbo from pj91gsx and installed it but still I can hear it. Any ideas? Background the motor on the car was rebuilt by the dealership about 5+ years ago but was sitting in a garage for the majority of its life before I bought it. I want to know what would cause this, or if this is even normal. Thanks. Any other questions just ask and I'll reply quickly. It's a 98 Mitsubishi eclipse gsx

Mine does that too, engine and turbo pull good though. My buddy that did the test said that has never happened before to him but he has heard that "fine". I did have air coming of the dip stick though. But like I said I haven't had any problems though

Yea but it's not something that I can just drive and assume its fine. It doesn't sit right with me, which is why I'm asking if someone can point out a logical reason as to why it'd be making that sound.

Its apparently normal especially if you're doing the test on a cold motor, the air gets past the oil seals on the turbo.

The motor was definitely cold, was sitting for a few days until I received the turbo. Then installed everything. New gaskets. Took my time with it. Then instantly did the test. After I tested it I just put the intake tube on and prepped the car by disconnecting the injector plugs and another plug then let it crank over for a few seconds to lubricate the bearings in the turbo. Then turned it on and everything sounds fine but just want to be sure. But I'm still not driving it yet until I get a confirmation that this is normal.

Hmm figured someone would jump in by now.

Nothing is wrong, perfectly normal. The air sound is air leaking past piston rings (impossible not to get this) bubbling sound is when air leaks past turbo compressor shaft seal-into center section-down oil drain and pushes it's way through the oil level (which normalll sits slightly higher than the drain) The shaft seal is a metal seal that doesn't perfectly seal statically even brand new.

And try not the plug off the crankcase ventilation during a BLT to make the hissing go away, you could cause problems with gaskets and seals that way.

Happy holidays

Thank you! But just for peace of mind can I get Justin (jusmx) or Austin (pj91gsx) to second this?

Drove the car. Everything feels fine except before I had the boost set at 18 psi now it's showing I'm boosting 16 at WOT. Now boost leaks other then bubbling sound. Still normal? Simple yes or no would do.
