I have a 1995 Eclipse GS with the 420a motor. I bought this car non running with a wiring issue. The car has no fuel or spark.

Basically what happened to this car was the previous owner swapped motors because I think the other motor jumped a tooth on the timing belt. When he swapped motors, he took a motor out of a junk 99 Eclipse and cut all of the wiring on the engine. When he put the new engine back in he spliced all of the wires from the old harness and onto the new harness. It looks a little messy but it seems that eveyrthing was hooked back up.

My question is since the car will turn over but will not start because it has no fuel or spark, could the PCM be bad?

I have replaced both the crank and the cam sensors and they seem to be making a connection. The ASD relay has been replaced but I'm not entirely sure if it's connected right.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I should look for? I'd love to see this car run again. Thanks

When he spliced everything was it soldered? If not I would solder every connection. Also have you verified the sensors are all hooked up correctly like the signal pin isn't hooked to a ground? If the car has no fuel can you hear the fuel pump coming on? If not you could be right with the ASD relay.

The PO was stupid to be honest with you. If he reused all the 95 sensors he would not have had to splice in new connectors.

Well wiring is always a disaster especially second hand. Take a multimeter and make sure you have power at the PCM and to those sensors you mentioned. Once you know they have power, you need to check the voltage and make sure it's not dropping volts before it gets to the sensor. Bad grounds or no grounds will make it have those issues as well.

There's at least 3 major grounds that need to be working right. I would Google what it takes to drop a 99 motor into a 95 because sometimes you have to repin the PCM for certain sensors. Every year 95-99 they changed a few wires on the PCM and harness so look into that. Hopefully this helps.

All I can say is WOW. I agree with the other two. If it were me, I'd try to find a 95 and grab the wiring harness and all of the sensors and start from scratch but both DSMCRZY and JAYSON have more knowledge and have done way more than I have with the 420a.

Thanks you guys. I checked the wires and they are all soldered for the most part. I have the car loaded up on the trailer and I am just going to try to have a shop diagnose it soon. If they can't give me a good answer then I'll probably try finding a 95 wiring harness to just swap out.

If you need wiring diagrams, give me a shout out. I have access to All Data in school so I can print some out and take pics for you.

See if you can get your hands on a 95 wiring harness and all the sensors. Don't send it to a shop:notgood: they will charge you an arm, leg and a newborn just to look at it and then tell you they can't fix it:banghead: Get a wiring schematic, harness, and sensors from a junked car and take your time and go through all the wiring. That way, you can check and double check and do it the right way :thumb:

Go to the junkyard and find a 98 harness and PCM and its a direct swap over just plug and play. I did the same thing to my car when I did a auto to manual swap. on a scale of 1 to 10 for easiness its a 10 for super easy LOL. there are only a few differences between the two harnesses
1. the PCM
2. speed sensor
3. crank sensor
4. coil pack
5. cam sensor

I believe those plugs are the only different ones

if you don't have fuel pressure make sure your fuel pump is plugged in or even in working condition.

I found a junkyard that has a 1996 Eclipse GS.

I have to do all the work to pull everything out but for the PCM, the harness, sensors, relays, and anything else it'll cost me around $60. Before I go there though, is there anything else I need to get?

I know I will need the 96 PCM for the 96 harness to plug into. As long as I get all of the relays and sensors for the 96 I should be good right?

Is there anything else I'll need to swap it into a 95 car? Oh and by the way I just wanted to go to the shop to find out where in the wiring my problem was so I could fix that part LOL but I decided that since the entire harness is so chopped up I better just switch the whole thing out. And for $60 its probably quite a bit cheaper

yes definitely cheaper! Just grab the harness and sensors. there is one plug that goes to the fuse box from the engine harness. so you shouldn't need those relays. I would grab the ASD and the fuel pump relay as they are a part of the engine harness and you will be there anyways.

Unfortunately there is no plug on the fire wall and a good amount of wires go in there. So you still may have to do some depining and re pining of the ECU unless you go through the interior and unplug that stuff. if you go to syntechlabs.com and in their tech info they have a wiring manual for these cars. go through that. it will show you how everything is routed, where the plugs are along with their size and color.

You want the 95-96 electrical manual. Just make sure you go to the 420a part of the manual.

Good luck!!

Alright so I haven't posted in a while but I couldn't get the 96 harness and after lots and lots of searching I finally found an automatic 1995 Eclipse RS. I bought the car for parts and I completely swapped out the wiring harnesses and hooked up all the sensors. I pulled the park/neutral safety switch out of the automatic transmission and plugged it in. Now how can I use it to try to turn the motor over? I have pushed the button on the switch in, I've tried grounding the switch, and I've tried to turn the motor over without touching anything on the switch. Does anyone know how I can wire it or trick the car into thinking I'm in neutral so I can turn the motor over? I'm trying to make this auto wiring harness work in my 5 speed car. Thanks!
