Hi,
I have a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX and I am trying to install a backup camera, but do not know where to connect the wire for the reverse light. I am hoping there is something at the front of the car such as in the center console or under the dash since that's where the head unit is located. I have the service manuals, but I'm not sure that I understand what I am looking at. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping to avoid that since this would create an unnecessary loop. My camera does not have a wire to connect to the reverse light circuit; that connection comes out of the head unit's wiring harness, so I would be running an extra wire from the rear of the car to the front, when the needed wire seems to originate from a wiring harness a few inches behind the car stereo. I was hoping to use the included wire to connect closeby.

After some more time in the service manual and reading related threads, I think that I am looking for Pin 22 of the B-63 "Body wiring harness and control wiring harness combination" connector, which seems to have a red wire with a blue stripe. I haven't confirmed this yet since I will have to wait for a day that I can remove the car stereo again to access the wiring.

I didn't understand the circuit diagram at first, but I think I have figured out this much after finding another document containing the circuit diagrams for the car. It is a 172 page document called Electrical Wiring and it is not the same as the service manual vol 2 electrical manual I have.

Where they indicate 22 (B-63), this means pin 22 of connector B-63. Where it says 0.85R-L, this means wire size 0.85, basic wire color Red, marking color (stripe) Blue

Cheers

Looks like you can use the wire from the reverse switch

Hi and thanks for the suggestion.

I was looking at that, and I assume that means accessing wiring on the transaxle in the engine compartment. From what I can tell, in the M/T 2.0L Turbo model, this may be something I can reach, as it appears to be close to the fuse box? I may look at this as an alternative.

Thanks

Looks to me like the B51 or B69 connectors might be closer since they are on the junction box in the drivers footwell. The Red/Blue wires on each is the active high power to the lights.

What does your backup camera want for a trigger, a signal that goes high or one that goes low when the car is in reverse?

Hi,
It is an Alpine iLX-W650, and the installation instructions say "Reverse Lead"; Connect to the plus side of the car's reverse lamp. I was thinking I could use pin 22 of connector B-63, but now that you mention it, maybe pin 19 of B-65 is more appropriate. I will have to put a meter on each one and see what happens when I put the car in reverse. It will also depend on what I can reach and avoid messing up. I don't want to butcher anything.

Thanks!
