I just put a new head on my 98 gsx, since my old one was getting junky and while I was at it I replaced all my belts and water pump. Now I am having trouble, the timing marks are lined up on the camgears but its not turning over. So I pulled the plugs and the second cylinder one has a gas/oil mix on it. Could it be a bad headgasket or bad pistion ring? Also is this a reason why it isnt firing and if so how can I tell why its has this mix in it?
Please help, cars already been down 2 months and I want to get it up and running.

Which is it? Is the engine not turning over or the engine not firing? You say you checked cam gears but did you check crank to be sure that you are lined up? Just a little more info for us to go on.

The engine was turning over but not firing up, but I found out what it was. It was my cam sensor, it wasnt lined up right. Now I have a new problem. The car started but wouldnt idle then died. If I gave it gas it would run but kept backfiring and then as soon as I let off the gas it died. So I ask you now what could be happening?

OK could be lots o' things but let's start here; Did you make sure crank was lined up when you checked cam marks? Also, do a quick check of firing order. With backfiring I suspect a spark firing issue. Spark firing at wrong time due to one of many things. I hope for your sake that it is not the first question I listed because that may lead to removing your head again to fix the bent valves.
