2G Heater Core

Hello all,

I am in the middle of replacing the heater core. The issue that I am having is that the two replacement units that I have received from Rockauto are not right. The bends on the pipes are not right and therefore do not allow the plastic piece that holds the core in place, to sit right and be screwed down. I have a 1999 mitsubishi eclipse gs. I have ordered both heater cores listed on rockauto, for my specific year and model, but both have the incorrect bends. Does anybody have any additional part numbers or any advice? I don't have time to be buying a core and sending it back until I get the one that I can use (I live in Alaska and winter is about to start for us)? I have attached a picture that shows the old core (top) vs incorrect new (bottom).

I would contact Miller Imports on Facebook. He has them.

Yep I was just going to say Miller inports. Also how far off is it off from lying up so you can match holes on firewall?

Hello,

The issues is that the plastic piece that holds the core in place doesn't fit because one of the pipes has a bend that is completely different from the original core. I have attached a picture of what I am talking about. The bottom core is the new one that I received and the top one is the old one.

Hey guys I’ve never posted on here but I have a 99 Mitsubishi Eclipse Rs with the 420a motor and I have no heat I bought the car being a dumbass and not checking the heat. The blower motor works good but blows cold air, So I’m thinking either the flap or baffle is stuck closed over time or I need to flush or buy a new heater core. Any suggestions why I don’t have heat? Thanks

Any of the things you listed can be the cause. Start by checking the baffle that closes off the heater core when you have ac on, with the car off and the key in the 'run' position slowly turn the temp dial from hot to cold and back again, you should be able to hear the motor turning the door back and forth. If that's working, then it's time to check the heater core.

Sounds like you're already on the right path, start testing!

This might be obvious but check your heater hoses going into the firewall. Sometimes people just plug them off.

Hey guys I just have to add my two cents to this! I am working on my 95' Sebring right now with the 2.5L. Seems it uses the same heater core as the 420A does so it only adds to the confusion. My heater core has been sitting around for 2 years now waiting to install. I ordered it from OSC, a premium quality heater core company. So I finally cracked it open, got the dash out and all that good stuff and to my surprise this new heater core has nowhere near the same bends as the OEM one does. What in the actual F gives with this. What application is this heater core supposed to be for? I double checked the part numbers and all that, and found this glorious website. It's kinda a good feeling to see somebody else had this issue. I attempted to tweak the new core's pipes so it would fit but it just can't fit through the intricate passage on the way past the firewall. I even hacked a chunk out around where the retainer bracket mounts to the firewall in desperation to get my car running. I ordered another one on Amazon and anticipate seeing what kind of bends this has.
So what I get from this is the 98's have a straight shot out of the car but the 95's have an offset? Is that what I'm seeing here? Don't they use the same dash though? I'm an Avenger guy so I know the dashes are always the same from 95-00 but I have a 95 LXi Sebring I'm working on and have never seen another one on the road like my hardtop.
Any insight and discussion would be appreciated!
