Headlight Issue

I have 96 gst that I have a head light issue with. The brights don't work and the bright light indicator stays on whenever lights are on and doesn't go off no matter what. It does get brighter/dimmer when pulling switch. I've replaced the switch. What could possibly be the problem?

Sounds to me that you have a short in the wiring and/or a bad combination switch (the lever on the wheel that operates the dimmer and headlights). I would start by tracing the wiring to see if you have any burnt wires, breaks in the wires, etc. From there, if everything checks out ok, try replacing the switch.

When you test continuity, find your positive lead and test directly to ground (bare metal on the frame etc, not a wire on the harness). What were your readings on the meter when you tested?

Sorry for the late post, but I've had more time recently.

-If the brights are plugged in, there is no power. If I unplug both bright headligjts and test for power, they're hot.
-If I hook power to them while plugged (with a switch to turn power on), they operate normally. Bright indicator goes off, brights come on, etc. The power wire then starts to burn. (Not sure if too small of wire, or a problem. Tried multiple sizes)
-if I hook the grounds directly to a ground, the bright indicator light gets brighter, but that's it.

It's my understanding that the brights always have power, and when you pull the switch it grounds them out, lighting the bulbs. I'm thinking the power is grounding out before it gets to the bulb?
