I noticed last night that a header bolt is missing. Is it possible to throw in a bolt and avoid taking everything apart to install a stud?

It's a stud and a nut, not a bolt.

Yes, you can install a replacement without removing anything, as long as there isn't thread damage. Usually when there's a missing stud, it's because the threads are ripped out of the head. In that case, you'd have to pull everything off and helicoil it.

I would use a stainless steel bolt. Plain steel bolts tend to glue themselves on to the aluminum threads after a while, when you try to take them out, the threads get chewed up.
Acehardware got plenty of stainless fasteners.
