well after much searching and no answers I am just going to ask my question and see if you all can help me. What I want to know is how to hardwire my radiator fans to work with a switch so I can turn them on at my discretion and still come on when they are supposed to anyway? Is this even possible? Could I hardwire one fan and have the other come on when the ecu tells it to come on?? Reason is my fmic should be comming soon and untill I can get a fluidyne in the car I will have to use the stock radiator(cali summer heat + fmic = overheat), also when I am in the staging lanes at the track the car likes to run up in temp if I could be abel to turn on the fans that would be great.

I looked on vfaq.com and couldn't find anything, The one link that I thought would help was down. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Interesting idea. I am sure it has been done by someone. It seems to me that if you were to run a set of wires directly from your battery to a switch and then to the fans, you would have basicly an over ride switch. What i mean is, when your switch is on, it will deliver power to the fans no matter what, and when it is off it will still get current when the ECU tells it to. I dont see why it would not work, but I hope you have at least basic electrical skills. It seems like it may be easy to short something. I am not an electrician, so its only my opinion.

yeah, if you tap into the hot wire going to the fan and attach it to the battery with an inline switch, you should be able to turn it on whenever you want... and still have the ecu turn it on whenever it wants. might want to put a voltage regulator inline as well... i think this will work, but i'm not sure of the effects of 12v on the output of the relay.

thanks for the replies guys, I was actually thinking something similar but not directly to the fan. It kinda goes off the idea of having daytime running lamps. What I was thinking was running a wire from the fan relay in the fuse box under the hood to a switch in the car, then back to the alternator relay, that way when the switch was on it would get power straigt from the alternator. hmmmm....i'll go try something stuff right now.

Use A 2 pole relay switch, that way one pole will be the factory ecu kick on, the other pole will be your automatic switch... what i did for mine...

there's a wire on an ecu harness that works really nicely. when you ground it, it turns both fans on to full capacity. i just made a switch for that.

im sorry i dont know what pin it is, but im sure someone can find it real quicklike.

Mine just has switches (of suitable capacity) across each of the fan relays... Real easy to do, works great, doesn't interfere with normal fan operation, just gives me the ability to force them on when I want to.

greyforest thanks for this info, for anyone wondering its pin number 20. I am about to go try this right now and see if I can get the switch to cooperate with me.

all i do on mine is just when the car is off i turn the AC on and that turns both of the Fans on high and it cools down in about 15 mion or so. Works for me and a few others. :thumb:

I can turn my fans on whenever I want, and they still come on as normal throughout driving, I though it was normal, All I do is turn the a/c on and turn the fan on and the radfan, + A/C fan come on and they turn off when I have the A/C off
