no i made it for roll racing. my friend has a gt4082 off a supra he wants to sell me and i told good thats kinda big and goes well your car is made for roll racing i was like you got a point. he has the 1jz motor witch is a 2.5l and hits boost at 3,700 rpm so i was thinking 4,200rpms for me.

It depends on what exhaust housing is on the turbo, the condition of your engine, if the turbo is BB or journal bearing, etc. etc. There are a couple variables, but for the most part (I'd say) you should see 20ish psi in 3rd gear around 4800 to 5K.

Not worth it, the turbo is gonna spool way after 5k, somewhere around 6k. Be prepared to run a lot of boost before that turbo actually makes any power. Also the turbo is an 800hp turbo, do you have an 800hp capable motor, your regular "built" motor will not handle it, and in that case do you have enough fuel for 800hp.

ok so its not a 800hp turbo its only rated for 650 max on a 1jz and just because a turbo can make that much power maxed out dose not mean you have run that much why not just run 17lbs of boost and shoot for 400hp.

its rated at 650 on the 1jz... not the 4g63.. just like the holset hx35 is rated to 350 max on the cummins but puts our cause well in the 600hp mark!

id say if you want to try it out go for it and let up know how it goes!
Id say spool time will be like around 4500rpm like stated above,
which isn't....that bad i guess the hx35 spools up at 3500 which is good for the size of it!
i would go with a holset! my opinion tho!

Always seem to be a common N/A thing to do in which people buy massive turbos then run low boost on them and having a short useless powerband. Get a smaller turbo that can hangle 400hp and get better spool with it.

There is a reason why you should buy a turbo sized correctly to your goal. Getting a gt4082 & saying I'll run it at 17psi is a dumb idea. This is not where this turbo is designed to run, you will not be in the proper effiency range, may have surge issues & to top it off you will have a very poor power band. If you want a big turbo thats great but you also need to run it how it was designed to run, ie 35+psi & 9K or so redline. If you want to run it at 17psi, get a GT30R sized turbo as the car will actually be faster as it will have a much broader power band.

650hp defently isn't the max of this turbo, you can make that kind of power with the 35R wheel & some have made it with the 30R wheel.

For anyone here to tell you when this turbo will spool is just a guess. To even get a ball park you are leaving out way to much required info (motor specs, turbine housing, exhaust mani, etc)

Why in the world would you buy a turbo much too large for your setup and then not even use it anywhere near it's potential, when you could get something the correct size for your motor and be right in the middle of its range.

If your mods list is up to date, then you are not even 50% of the way to having the supporting mods for a gt40 anyways, so you should start with that first.

Why tolerate enormous lag and a boost threshold of like 6,000 rpm (won't make usable boost below that) to make 400hp, when you could do that with a damn 16g and have instant response and power from low RPM.

Personally i feel like a turbo should be used to its maximum safe capability. The snail should be the most restrictive part of the system, and anything else isn't worth it.

Cause he wants to play with the big dogs and you cannot the 1jz to a 420a engine. Natedsmeclipse, how much power are to look for. I have a HX40 and the whole shizbang I'm selling and it'll make 650 hp.

i was running a evo 3 big 16g on my fwd and i was easily running 18psi and actually a realy long powerband on long roll racing as you say..with a big 16g it takes the simplest breakboosting and your already at full boost by 3500rpm..big16g is the way to go for your goals.IMO

If you want 400hp and you want it for roll racing an evo3 16g with cams, a good tune, and fuel system with some race gas and upping the boost can get you there or you can also look into a 50 trim as well.
Use a turbo you will be able to use it's power efficiently.

You really think that it will make 650hp maxed out? Thats underrated i guess, its an 82mm turbo, its kinda like a 35r(compressors are a little different) with a humonguos exhaust side. I might have overrated it a little but that is a HUGE turbo, if you only want 400hp get a 50 trim(or as a matter of fact get a HX35) it can make 400whp on low boost, whereas the 4082 can not.

You're thinking wrong. Even a GT35R on a built 4G63 doesn't reach full boost until beyond 4200- there's no way a GT40 would see full boost by then unless your 420A has a 20.0:1 compression ratio like a diesel.

Personally, I can't see a 1JZ spooling a GT40 at 3700rpms either. Maybe that's where it begins spooling, but there's no way in hell it's not at full boost by then. Additional displacement does wonderful things, and the 1JZ being a 6-cylinder also helps because of the additional cylinder pulses; but neither of these factors will make such a large turbo spool at a streetable RPM on a 4G63, 420A, or 1JZ.

What does your redline look like? If you bolt this GT40 on your 420A and it doesn't make power until 5500 and you're redlining at 7500, you're making 2000 rpms of useable power. That's retarded.
