Spent more time on the eclipse this weekend and found my stock exhaust is rusted pretty bad. Bottom line: need to replace it.

My question is does anyone have any recommendations for a cost effective (budget around $500) exhaust. I want something that fits well, has bungs for 02 sensors, & is on the quieter side.

You might want to specify a little more... Are you looking for suggestions for a quiet catback option or also considering suggestions on a muffler and resonator to pair with piping?

Apologies. I’m looking for a quieter catback option. I may also need to replace the cat, so I would love solutions there, as well.

Im the last person who should comment on anything thats quiet. My Thermal I can hear idling from across the parking lot and inside a building.

SRS falls in your price point of under $500. But its still gonna be considerably louder than your stock exhaust..Greddy Evo2 was another one that I remember running into another DSMer that had one and was noticeably quieter than mine. 2kracing.com still has it listed at $553 IF they still have a couple in stock, because I couldnt find it anywhere else..Its probably discontinued.

Thats why I was asking about piecing it together because if aftermarket catbacks are too loud, you could use a longer resonator to keep things quiet rather with a muffler rather than hacking up a brand new catback if its too loud for you. Maybe others have a better solution but the Eclipse catback options are getting scarce and theres not a lot of info or video evidence on the more generic named catbacks that have been popping up.

I use to run a $90 universal Magnaflow high flow cat(probably more $$$ now with inflation) back in the day before i switched to a Megan downpipe that eliminated it... It was pretty much just a straight thru dummy cat that had a bung for the second o2 sensor but it kept the check engine light off.

The SRS system wasn’t too bad when I was FWD. When I went AWD I pieced together my own exhaust, just basic straight 3” sections, 2 resonators, and a universal tip. If I didn’t use vbands I would of saved a bit but I change my setups off-on

I haven’t put too much thought into building my own exhaust. How did you end up handling exhaust hangers & such?

If you use a no name ebay exhaust I suggest going with a 2.5 exhaust. The no name 3 inch exhaust is too big for the bend to go over the rear axle and will rattle until its dented

The 2.5 exhaust should be a better fit, but can have fitment issues

The ebay/amazon exhausts are extremely loud, like you want to run the silencer they supplied. They dont sound bad, they are very loud

I have a srs turbo back exhaust on my gst and the flanges warped over time. I had to really grind the crap out of them, but otherwise fitment is great no rattes and the car is definitely quieter than the ebay exhaust on my white car

If it was me I would try to find a name brand used one locally on marketplace

Thanks for the info!

While searching I noticed that some exhaust says that it does not fit the Spyder, some don’t mention anything at all. What should I be looking for to make sure it fits my car? What is the difference in exhaust between coupe & Spyder GST?

It should fit. Dont count on manufacturers to be up to date on the trim level of car models. Ive run into plenty of other parts where they say it wont fit or isnt listed as compatible. But it ends up fitting.

I replicated the majority of the exhaust hangers and fabricated two extra ones with the original design. It was a bit too stiff and so I added a slightly longer flex pipe in the factory location

I had the same issue with my 2.5" exhaust. The solution was to cut the hanger rod off and weld it at a better angle that held the pipe higher. The one I purchased was Yonaka brand which is supposed to be much higher quality than the Ebay systems yet still has the fitment issue. It's fairly common from what I've seen.
