hey greyforest i will try and take a pic of the underside of my hood today or tomorow whenever my camera is all charged up. But there are no symetrical shapes on the 1g hood all the ribbings are randomly placed. You could cut shapes into it though or just have an odd shaped hole, but it mihgt look funny.

I really dont think so. When you cut carbon fiber it shreds and I dont think you could smooth it out very well. I could be wrong but I wouldnt want to start chopping away at my new $300+ hood. But thats just me

and brave.. I have been maul'n over cutting the front area around the actual scoop on the driver side for as long as I can remember. I remember seeing it on a DSM somewhere and DAAMMNN .. that way it wont be so directly opened on top...

Now.. I think I will try....... hehe.. like u said... just get another hood if I f### up..

Someone's gotta come up with a 1g idea here. I was however, thinking of cutting two holes in the front bumper...like this car

This is also another project I have been thinking of doing that I have no idea when I'll get around to!

The main thing is that you/me/anyone will need to get a hold of a powerful enough tool to cut through the actuall bumper to allow more airflow to the FMIC... cutting the bumper cover will probably only require a dremel tool

For those that dont have and prolly wont have a FMIC, we could make those cuts in the bumper further apart (like under the headlights almost). That'd feed some air to the SMIC.

I think that had the vent I put on top of the bubble and cut a hole in the front of the bubble that has a plastic insert that is also vented to direct air in.
The theory is that at speed the hot air is sucked out the vent on top of the bubble from low pressure. I did have to cut a very little bit of the webbing on the underside. I'll try to get a pic of the underside up in my gallery soon.

you'd have to remove the smic ducting, or make some new ducting and run it from the holes you cut.

i really want to cut my bumper too, since i dont care about it and it looks shitty, but whenever i photoshop it it doesnt look good at all on the 2ga front bumper. it looks good on that 1g because its nice and square and matches all the other liens of the car, but on mine just looks weird and out of place.

ill see if i can dig up what i had photoshopped.

I've done some ruminating.

Below the passanger wiper on the winshield base cowl make a sunken cowel with the opening at the upper firewall just below the weater strip.

Cut out the fire wall to match. 3-4" tall and about 9-10" wide. I have'nt measured yet. But there is a nice open flat area that size above and to the right of the cruise control box on 2gs. The vent would pretty much be below the passenger wiper arm invisible to the untrained eye.

It would flow out and up at the base of the windshield when stoped and actually may flow in when in motion.

The ABS windshield cowel is alot more user friendly to mod than painted sheet metal.

A little plastic from a donor cars cowel.. some epoxy and a heat gun ought to cut it. You can even purposely leave a ledge at the bottom of the vent to stop water and install a drain tube. Much like sunroofs have. You could also just cut out the plastic and install screen but I think a real molded cowel will flow more air.

Try making the holes similar in shape to the right and left "triangle-shaped" holes in the front bumper. That will probably look a little better. Just experiment with a few different shapes until you find something that is functional and looks good as well.

I also think that the 2 center hood vents on a supra hood would look awesome on our hoods. Someone earlier mentioned how it looked like a happy face, but if the vents were shaped supra-style, it would make an evil, menacing face.

Cut out where I drew the box.

Cut out the black plastic at the bottom of the windsheild and put in a screen like on GF's hood. I'd probably do an inverted scoop instead of just a screened cut out.
