im supposed to do my buddies' 95 talon sometime, but it seems we're always busy. make no mistake, we will do a vfaq on it, its just taking a while to find a time to do it.

Think it could be done on a 1G IF you had a way to reinforce the hood? is it would require cuting some of the braceing.

I was wondering myself if you could cut the front of the hump out like I saw actuly done to two DSMs in some car shows.. (lost the pics in format though )

it looked bad ass to me. But im not sure if it would help as much as the reversed vent.


At any rate I think there need to be some more experimenting done on the 1G's.

I liked the idea of the vent, im from ks so we got lots o nasty weather. I was remembering my dads old MG. it had an intake (beleived for the interior vents) along the top of the hood about 2"x10". MG made a magnet that covered this hole for adverse weather. I image someone could whip up a fancy magnet to cover these holes at a local sigh shop for less than $30 with either colors or logos, etc. BTW the magnet on the MG help up to over 80mph.

i just did the hood vent mod on my car and love how it turned out. I don't have a pocket logger so i don't know if it helped out the temp inside the engine bay or not, but i know what i can see Is the heat radiating out of the vents when stoped and i can feel all the heat exscaping out when i'm outside the car(of course i have to put my hands over it, it's not like boiling from 5 feet away, )

so it has to help?

I do have some advice though. The tin snips kind of SUCK, true it gets the job done but when i did it, i could notice the slight bends it was making to the metal. So i called up my friend and found a much better tool that works very very VERY well for this such a thing.. It's an Air body saw i think is the name

there's the link to the pic of what i used. you can saw right up to the lines you marked, it's edges are smooth enough for me : P it takes a little pratice to get the curves right but reguardless, all you need is that saw and a drill, to start a hole or two and it takes 10 mins Max per hole. And i took my time cause i was being very picky about how this was gunna look.

though u have to be a little more carefull with this method because with a nice sharp blade it slices through the hook like butter : P

but like i said i'll have pics up w/in the next few days, whenever i get time. Oh btw i have a 2G, sry 1G guys



EDIT: and btw i went out to a hobby store and baught like a 2x2 foot sheet of magnet, and cut it out so whenever i want i can slide it under my vent if i know it's going to rain for the next few days, or Heavy snow, whatever i need. It still looks fine just you don't get to see the mesh because it's between the mesh and hood. but looks nice

i'm tempted to try out different types of mesh/and color because the one i got is quite small, i love it up close but looking at my pics, i dunno,

on the last one you might have to increase your brightness to see it well

I have a few more pics when the car is outside completly in the day light but that was all i could host for now, i'm gunna resize these once i put windows on my compy and make some room so i can host the others

and as you'll see in the 2nd pic i can't get the damn rubber to line up smooth on the left side, i've still got a lil work to do to make that look smooth but o well for now it works great. and it holds up great, i was just on a road trip for my Bday (22nd, woot) and got up to 130 and it was fine, you do hear a whistling sound now though, from all that wind rushing in through there, a little Loud, but so's the O2 dump,

mmm...i just came about this here thread. I may actually do this mod because i too are in the quest of lowering engine bay temp..

It worked fine on my MGB upto about 115... that is a great idea... (yes I did manage to make an overweight underpowered car run up to 115 after several engine mods and aero mods.)
