If your asking if you can cut carbon fiber yes you can. You must be very careful not to crack or chip the glass. You will probably have some small chips that can be covered up by the trim piece. You would use a drill bit and a very fine tooth bi metal jig saw blade or a fiberglass blade and a barrel sander. drill the hole 1/2 inch or so inside your mark then cut out to just inside the line with the jig saw you want the saw at high RPM and use very littel pressure. If you push very hard at all it can chip, crack, and mess things up bad. It is also a good idea to take masking tape and tape the foot of the jig saw with a few layers, this way the foot will not scratch the surface coat. Once you cut the pattern out just inside the line take the barrel sander and clean up any inperfections. I would probably sugest practicing on some junk fiberglass or carbon fiber to get a feel for how much pressure to use.
The other problem I could see is the underbracing probably doesn't go in the same places and may be in the way. If you cut through the underbracing you could kill the structural integrity of the hood. If you did cut through underbracing you may be able to reinforce it by adding fiberglass or carbon fiber around the hole.

It could be done.. instead of a die grinder just use a dremel and be VERY careful. You won't get any extra shots at it, and remember you're taking a chance using a $500+ hood.

I agree with yoshimitsuspeed, take your time, also make sure that if you do drill the carbon fiber to use light pressure and step your drill bits. Pressing hard or a drastic change in bit size will result in the bit attempting to gouge and chip the carbon fiber. A nice set of sharp bits wouldn't hurt either. Also I didn't read the tech article or anything but I would definately drill from the outside in, usually whenever you drill anything the side that you drill from ends up with the cleanest looking hole.

something like a 1" hole saw might be a good way to make a hole without risking damage. Just make sure it's sharp and use very light pressure. I agree, deffinately drill from the outdide in and a little ways away from your cut line.
A trick I learned with the hole saw is to start it in reverse to cut the first layer of resin then switch it to forward and start with almost no pressure then increase it gradually.

Yeah whatever you do don't use a uni-bit that will just rip everything all to hell. :thumb:

of course the gray forest mod is restricted in both shape and position by the ribing under the hood.. u no longer would have that restriction with a c/f hood and could put a vent(s) anywere with any shape
