Absolutely - a cute little drain system would be a piece of cake - I'm a lot more worried about how a 1G version of this mod will turn out.

Hrmm.. Wonder what that would look like on a 1G? Just curious.. anyone do some PhotosChopping?

one of my friends car, you can see what he did with his hood.

Since that is a 1G it's a 4G63 in there, albeit a non-t...I have always wanted more airflow to my timing belt cover...that darn thing gets so hot!

Quick question, I don't have any tin snips, but do you think a carbine cutting tip (dremel tool tip) will do the job?

yes, actually any high speed air/electric tool will work better. With the tin snips you actaully have to be mindful of what you're doing since as you're clipping it tends to bend the sheetmetal. Make sure to drill a hole as a starting point.

someone should photoshop it on a 1g or something id really like to see what it would look like...i have an extra hood laying around so you know what that means...

I dont think you could do it the same way on a 1G. If you will notice on the bottom of a 1G hood the supports are in the way for the most part however I have noticed one or two spots you could put a vent.

We should post something in the photo chopeing fourm.

i suppose youre fishing for comments...err compliments.

heres my comment since you want it: it looks terrible. i dont understand people raving over this mod. they look weird and totally out of place. id rather run a rainbow colored hood than that. it looks exactly as it is, a cheap mod done with tinsnips.

thats my .02, just as you wanted. im sure ill get flamed for my opinion, whatever. i just dont understand how its being mistaken for a good looking mod. *shrugs*

to each their own i suppose.

If you watched your Intake Temps & all your Temps go up at idle on even a cool day on your Pocketlogger maybe you wouldn't be so negative about this highly FUNCTIONAL MOD - but then again - it appears that this couple is only into "LOOKS"...

kinda like Queer Eye for The Straight Guy...

to each "couple" their own...

Why don't you just drive with the hood off, that's a lot more FUNCTIONAL for cooling. Who cares if it LOOKS like ass.

I think it looks good. I am always looking for different things to do. Seems like this may snowball for many people.

Are there noticable gains from doing this mod as far as horsepower?

this will yield zero gains as far as HP is concerned. This just an alternative route to displace the heat from your engine.

True dat. FYI for those of you that don't know, DSMs are water cooled not air cooled, LOL. This mod might help if you were driving a 993 Porsche. LOL.

FYI - igs - Intake Temps & Engine Temps have an effect on HP - IF you can afford Pocketlogger buy it (shine it up real pretty so it LOOKS nice) - the PDA will also make a nice little date book for you & your little buddies...

who cares.

im sure this is as functional as the ram air on old gto's.

it looks retarded and cheap. just completely out of place. if this was so functional, buschur and shep's hoods would look like swiss cheese. pull the wool up from over your eyes. i cant stand it when people try to justify their dumb rice mods for functionality. you'll fit right in with the carbon fiber hood for weight and spoiler for down force guys. are you one to argue that bodykits give better aerodynamics also?

if you like it cool. go for it. just dont sit here and say its a performance mod. when you get a dyno slip with before and after #'s, then you may come back and own me with them. until then, i cant see you proving this is a:

highly FUNCTIONAL MOD

It's not so much a HP performance mod as a cooling system performance mod. Especially those who have discarded the heat shield from the manifold. The underhood temps of a turbo DSM are quite high. There's no good place for the heat to go as the car comes from the factory. The vents should allow for better cooling through the radiator. They won't help as much as a reverse scoop but it will allow better venting.

For all of you guys arguing about performance, notice where this thread is located.

If there are any gains, great, but it's more about asthetics.

Quit bashing.

Personally, I think it looks ok. Im sure that it helps get a lot of the hot air out of the engine bay. I was thinking, you might be able to do the same thing near the intake (use a different size and style air duct). To all the people yelling about performance, that might help a little. I know when I did my CAI mod to my headlight, the intake temps lowered a lot, but thats at speed. Just a thought.
