Tough break again Greg, but with the drastic power changes and without multi-million dollar backing this kind of stuff happens to the best of them.

I had a solid setup last year minus my tranny and this year its been everything but that giving me issues. Hell right now I think my maf or AFPR died on me when I did the cylinder head swap and I just found out i'm over oiling my 18g somehow and I've got til Sunday to get it all fixed for my next event.

The joys of racing eh?

I love the fact that most people still think our cars are drag cars only!! Show them how it's done Greg!!:rocks:

Anything good takes a lot of energy as I'm sure you know well. It's pretty cool to see you be successful with your car... a do-er, not a talker! :thumb:

Hey Kyle,

I'm sorry to hear you're in my boat with me. It's definitely a swim or sink reality. Hell I'd be satisfied if I could just float for a while...

Thanx Greg! I really want this bad as this will be my last year in a dsm, so I'm going to be driving my a$$ off the next 2 events. I'm sorry to say I'll be selling the Laser soon to save up for a brand new car next year. Although in the meantime, I hope to be co-driving a gvr4 for the season until I have an autox car again.

Heh i should have known xwing would have had the problems. He's a great guy though, met him at gingerman once. His car has a CRAZY exit speed and sounds awesome too. Keep up the good work greg, even with no wins its about the experience right? Cant wait for the next report and good luck!

Greg,
Again, sorry for the late reply but...:) Here are a few additional pixs from the weekend.

So what 's the word yet on the issues.

:)

Great photos as usual Tom! :thumb: I especially like the one where you can see the stream of tranny fluid pouring into the Pepsi can... yikes!

Mitch stripped the motor over the weekend to find the obvious head gasket leak as a result of all the overheating I committed on the track. He said it could have been a lot worse and he's tired of me screwing his engines up and sending them back to him! OMG

John Shepherd cracked the tranny open and was surprised to see a tooth missing from both third and forth gears. He said the bell housing was severely fractured and a weld job won't cut it.

Their both working hard to get the parts back to me before the next race (in 2-weeks), so it'll be the usual mad dash to the start line... I hope.

Hey been thinking and I would try and under power the motor next time and see how your temps go. Possibility of mild detionation causing the HG failures??
I would be up in arms at this point with everything checked and rechecked its hard to see how there could be a problem. Been there.
I personally wouldnt race the car again untill you can get the car out on a track and just get some laps on it and know its fixed but start with a mild tune and see how things go that day all day not just for 5 laps.
Im sure mitch checked your head when you had it back a second time or he would not of put it on thats not him.
What are you running for a water pump pulley?? Anything to slow it down? Im sure but just a thought.
What are using for a HG??

I've had to fight both of those problems for years now.

That photo isn't from the track but from an autocross. I shattered my GVR4 first gear and a chunk of it got wedged in the ring gear and blew a hole in the case. Funny thing is that John warned me not to use the VR4 gear but I just had to have it ....

As far as blowing headgaskets I've used all kinds of gaskets and in the end it was a combination of ditching the FMIC and going back to a stock headgasket that did the trick for me. If you're not running 25psi+ a stocker might be a better choice. They seem to be more forgiving when it comes to flatness and surface roughness.

Hey Tim, every time I look at your avatar it makes me cringe to see the debris and tranny fluid blowing out. John's tranny has served us well for almost three full seasons with only minor problems, and we were both surprised to see what recently happened. I guess you can only beat on something for so long until it eventually breaks.

As far as head gasket and overheating issues are concerned, I've had two incidents where I had complete water loss with hose blowouts. To expect a motor to survive on oil cooling alone is proved by the results. That is unless you’re driving a Volkswagen…WTF

i was watching the nopi vid in the dsm video link portion of the hangout...anyways, one part says "if your not breaking parts your not going fast enough". just think of that when you put your tranny back in.
