Eclipse/Talon 95-99 GRED 12030000 18R (Rspec)

Eclipse/Talon 95-99 GRED 12030001 280x600x76mm (24 Rspec )

What is the difference between the 18R and the 24R?

One is $815 and the other is $900.

Eclipse/Talon 95-99 GRED 12030000 18R (Rspec) This ones was the original one that GReddy made which didn't fill up the whole front of the bumper opening.

Eclipse/Talon 95-99 GRED 12030001 280x600x76mm (24 Rspec ) This one is the "Larger GReddy FMIC"

Also Patrick with the Big GReddy I believe you can't have you foglights anymore and have to cut the bumper a bit. It clears the 97-99 front foglights but not the 95-96.

Awesome, thanks Charlie. I am going to do the 97-99 Conversion with the FMIC as soon as winter is over. So the the 18R (Rspec) wont fill the whole bumper. I cant have that. I guess I will spend the extra $85 so I can fill the whole opening up.

I doubt you'd even be able to buy the 18R Type FMIC anyways. Greddy stopped making that unit a while ago. I bought mine used as I specifically wanted the smaller core to fit on my 95.

If you getting a 97 front bumper, go with the 24 model regardless.

Damn, am I the only one who still has a 95 front end on their car?

horsepowerfreaks.com still sells them according to their website

I've seen it on a few websites, but I doubt they actually have it. AIE lists it too, but after 3 phone conversations and a slew of emails this past summer I found out they can't get it. I swear some places don't even know the difference. The problem is that GReddy still lists that parts on the webpage but it's been out of production for at least a year.

Due to the slight cost difference, there's really no reason to buy the 18R, unless if you actually want the smaller core size for fitment reasons. But since most people either have 97+ cars, swap their bumpers up to 97+, or ditch the foglamps, the small core probably was outsold 10 to 1 by the large core.

It cracks me up how some people actually consider FMIC size just because of the "front opening filling" factor.

Yes, I do want the front filled up, and Yes I want the larger Intercooler for performance. I wanted to know the differences and you didnt answer one of those questions. So, if you dont have anything helpful to say, then do not respond.

Shadrach- thats what a friend of mine told me too, that the smaller greddy IC was discontinued. I was thinking about searching the trader and what not to try and find that IC because I personally do not like the look of the 96-96 DSMs without foglights. After looking at your front with the greddy small, I almost want to keep the 95-96 bumper. Looks good.

Sorry if you got your panties all up in a bunch. It just that you sounded like the only reason why you want the big greddy is because you want the whole front opening filled up. I mean that's how it sounded like after reading this:"So the the 18R (Rspec) wont fill the whole bumper. I cant have that"
Well to say something useful, you don't really need the big greddy unless you're looking for over 450+hp. A friend of mine dynoed 417 with a 46 trim and a small greddy.

Yes, it does. See? You don't need to fill up the whole front end with a FMIC to look good. :thumb:

Actually, the larger GReddy core is supposed to be designed as a large core intercooler meant for 15 psi range pressure.

The purpose of an intercooler is to lower the intake charge temperature. It doesn't care weather your making 50 hp or 500 hp, a larger core means better air-to-air cooling efficency.

There are lots of factors to measure in. I choose the small GReddy because I wanted one that would fit on my stock front-end, allow me to retain the foglamps, require mininal cutting/trimming, be a good match for my 16G setup, and a few other things....

im planning on picking up a 16g soon. what do you think about the small greddy/16g combo? i know you need a custom pipe to adapt the 16g to the 2g licp setup, will the same conversion pipe fot the greddy kit?

You are not alone my friend. I have retained my 96 front end. I actually like the look better than the 97+. I also have the small Greddy mated to my T28. Plenty of IC for me and I got to keep my stock foglights too :)

It's a complete bolt on. The piping starts and finishes exactly where your stock Intercooler connects, so whatever you need between the 16G and stock intercooler will also work from either GReddy FMIC unit.

Check out the PICTURES section of my webpage; there's a section labeled Mod Installation Pictures, look at the pics next to Front Mount Intercooler and Cold Air Intake for close up pics of the piping and install. I've also got closeup pictures of what I trimmed on the front bumper cover to make the FMIC fit in there :)

Hmmm...good luck finding the small core. I got the run around from everyone last summer when I was buying, but got a good deal on a barely used small core.

Unless you have a 95-96 or a Talon, or don't care about losing factory foglamps or trimming, there's really no good reason to get the smaller one.
