Eclipse/Talon 95-99 GRED 12030000 18R (Rspec)

Eclipse/Talon 95-99 GRED 12030001 280x600x76mm (24 Rspec )

What is the difference between the 18R and the 24R?

One is $815 and the other is $900.

Does anyone know if the larger version, the 24R, is covered under the California EO# that Greddy has? In other words, is the 24R smog legal in California? When I see the 18R listed it often lists either the EO# or says it's "50 state legal" but the 24R doesn't seem to.

Thanks!

When I bought the type 24 one, it had a piece of paper stuck to the top of the box saying, it is illegal to use on automobile in CA.
But then, this was over a year ago.

Would you have to remove the fog lights on a '97 TALON bumper with the 24R Greddy FMIC? I measured the gap between them and it was 25" so I should be ok. Just asking if anyone got one w/ a Talon.
Thanks

im planning on buying the 24R Greddy FMIC, i was just curious if anyone out there has it and what was the outcome? How bout installation if anyone did it there self out there? And is it required to get a new radiator when u get the bigger greddy fmic? I got a big t28 and supporting mods for it right now at a shop near me, thats y i didnt update my profile yet seeing there being installed right now. Anyone with experience please let me know.:dsm:

i dont know about the outcome but people say its the best performance mod

installtion...ummm... you have take ur front bumper off, cut your bumper gaurd out ... put 2 bolts on, then connect your IC hoses , put ur bumper on

its not Required to get a new radiator, but you Will Not be able to use your A/c... without overheating in hot weather.....even with a new radiator if its too hot , u still cant use AC ; but i reccommend a new radiator anyway

Not true....

But you should look into another intercooler aside from the greddy. Call up www.agpturbo.com and see what they can do for you. Also try www.indyracecores.com and check out what they got.. DSM greddy IC's :barf:

alright, thanks for the info guys. I was curious to what i have to go through when it comes time to install. As far as the A/C situation, i never use mine n e wayz so its all good.

I'm currently using the Big GReddy fmic, along with my FP Big28, and I have no over heating problems whatsoever. I know it's not the best fmic that's out there, but it does do a great job. I purchased mine used from Larryd awhile back. He dynoed at 380whp with an AGP L2R while using the big GReddy fmic, so it is plenty enough for a Big28 series turbo. You will have to trim your bumper for it to fit. I used a dremmel to trim mine, and if you decide to keep your 5 mph bumper you will have to trim it as well, you will need a sawzall for that task. I took the cheap way out and just left my 5 mph bumper off to help save on weight. Good luck!!

damn, that sounds good. Makes me feel better bout it now:thumb:
i might just do the same and get ride of the 5mph bumper as well.
Thanks for the info

u dont need a radiator to use the greddy big front mount but u should get one, ill tell u why
the greddy fmic completly blocks both the stock radiator and the ac consensor, so if u try and use the ac without a new radiator it probally will overheat, but more importantly since ur radiator isnt getting any air to it, it will cause ir underhood temps to rise considerably, if u use the greddy big fmic without a big radiator like the fluidine u will lose more power from pressure drop (caused by the heat under ur hood warming ur piping and air inside it up) then u will gain from the front mount, pressure drop is never good and it will make ur car run completly different on hot days then it will on cold ones, save urself the trouble of not being able to properly tune ur car and get the radiator

I have the big greddy and haven't had any overheating problems even with the A/C on in 90+ heat with stock radiator and fans. I flushed my radiator and put in a 70/30 water coolant mix not that long before the install. I also have a little more breathing room around the intercooler than the 97+ eclipse bumper though, not sure if it makes a difference.

I get about a 1.5 psi drop in pressure at the most, and that amount is just about normal on any fmic that you are going to purchase. If your going to purchase one brand new, you might as well by one of the better ones out there such as the Indy Race Core unit or the one from Victory Performance. But for a good used bargain you can't beat what you can get the big GReddy fmic for on the DSM trader or classifieds. You will have to keep in mind though, if you're going to run a 28 series turbo your going to need the ic piping from the fmic that you purchase to route back to the stock location, and that's exactly what the big GReddy does. Anybody that gets any type of over heating problems with the big GReddy fmic has problems else where IMHO. I have literally tried to make my car over heat with it. As I stated in my earlier post I have run my AC constantly with it in stop and go traffic, 85 degree temps, and extremely high humidty levels with no problems at all. I also run 20 to 21 psi on my ported FP Big28 as well. The only thing I have done to my cooling system besides a flush is add a bottle of Redline watter wetter to the mix. Good luck!!

ya i figured i shouldnt put it in til i got upper ic piping. and ill mess around wit the stock radiator like some of u did such as flushing it and trying other fluids in there. Thanks for the help:thumb:

Accprding the greddy themselves the large fmic is most efficient at 15-16psi. Which means any big turbo that fmic isn't gonna be enough. Go with indy, or pro street, or even dejon's fmic.
As I stated earlier Larryd made 380whp, roughly 450 crank hp with an AGP L2R and the big GReddy fmic at over 25 psi with supporting mods, so I think it's fair to say it does a good job, not the best but good, and last I remember an AGP L2R is considered a large turbo.

cirus: dude , do you even own / have tested a big greddy ... man ive seen some of ur other posts ... not to get into a war just i think your wrong about this... ok first off, they make design intercoolers so that air can get through them sufficiently... plus i have 3 fans on my fluidyne and i still overheat with AC on only. So i keep it off. As far as i know, this is only a problem with the big greddy core... But as for without AC, i stay cool as a freezer and its Constant... im boosting 20 on pump and its great pull... im sure theyre are better cores out there... but big greddy isnt Bad.

And then what did Larry do? He went with an indy fmic. Greddy isn't the nearly the best. Nuff said.
I agree, it is not the best fmic out there, but it did support about 450 crank hp which is more than what most of the people on these boards will ever see. Nuff said!!

I guess I should add its not really the greddy core its the pipes. A short route piping with fmic will yield better results.
I get 1.5 psi of pressure drop, and as I said before that is the amount that most fmic's are going to lose anyways.

ok i have a kinda on topic off topic question.....

i have the type 24 or big greddy fmic. and my car over heats like a MOFO......only in the summer mind i live in CA where it gets to be 114 degrees sooooo with that said i think the people who are claiming this and that make sure you check were people are from before you start posting about under hood and outside tempatures.....if you live in utah or some crap you dont know wtf heat is. its just like the 93 octane east coast 91 octane west coast.

ok now for my question does anyone who has this FMIC live in so cal and use there a/c? is it my best bet to just take the a/c out since i cant use it anyway without over heating? also if i leave in my a/c and do a radiator upgrade which i have to very soon with my new PTE 56trim where the hell do i put my fans the a/c condensor is in the way? has anyone relocated the a/c condensor in a cheap/simple fashion?

and i dont want to hear any bla bla bla bla bla research this and that oh the fans go on the front side of the RAD crap i know that im talking about IF i leave the a/c in.

thanks in advanve if infact someone helps me on this and dosnt flame my ass.
