Got the GST now I have problems.

ok guys today I purchased a 1995 eclipse GST really clean no dents perfect paint great interrior. Looked over the car no engine knock. I knew it had a slight problem with booting and it kinda acted jerky when u started to hit higher RPM and it wanted to cut out but when I shifted it stoped. The guy even told me about it so I just assumed it was like a fuel cut or sumthing. The car is 100% stock. Anyway I got off subject. Ok so I start the car i start getting into 3.5K or higher and the car wants to jerk and cut out. and it seems like if I push the pedal to far down it really wants to cut out. Any of u have any ideas on what the problem might be? I mean I knew I had to fix some thnigs engine wise but I got the car for really cheap so I didn't care. Any help or suggest U could give me would be greatly appreciated. :dsm:
 
Find out the codes, if the cam and knock sensors are bad then this could be the reason for the jerk. I thought this was happening to my car, but "luckily" im just hitting fuel cut...

Ok well I pulled the cat off today and that's not the problem either. I had the car on ramps started it up and it after the cat was off and it I pushed the gas in fast it wanted to drop below 1000 RPM and die then it would jump back up. But if I pushed the gas down slowly it was fine. I might be going to get the Cam position sensor today but I can't find where it is located on the car can anyone help me locate it with like a picture or something. The faster I find where it is the faster I can get a new one. Like I said did a scan and knock sensor and cam position sensor came up. Im not sure if that means the car is knocking or the knock sensor is out.
 
Hmm well at this point I have no clue what the problem could be. It seems like if I have the car in neutral and say I slowly push the gas pedal in it will work fine but if i push the pedal in quickly a little the RPM drops down to like 500RPM or less and wants to die and sum times it shoots back up and goes normal after wanting to die. only thing I can think of that it could be at this point is something with the fuel system what do u guys think?
 
well i just have to say that i had a 2g and my buddy also had one and running off of the stock wastgate(or of the boost silonoid) they run at 7psi and i own a 1g right now running just right off the wastgate and it is 10psi.....honestly i have ran into your problem and i have had a couple other 2g guys run into the same thing and i would just start with the cheapest and the easiest way and that is to change sparks plugs cause thats all it was for us

Already changed the spark plugs and gaped them to 0.28
 
ok and now that i actually read everything....my car did that as well and all i had to do was tighten the throttle screw that is on the throttle body....for some reason in the cold i have to adjust it....as far as your tick these cars are infamous for the lifter tick this is my 2 dsm and my buddy also had 2 dsm and they all had it....PartsDinosaur Store buy the 3g lifters the cheapest around....bye bye tick

Ok did you ever get to that cam sensor? The cam sensor is behind the intake cam gear on the 95 and 96 models. If your going to replace it then this would be a good time to replace the timing belt too.
A bad knock sensor CAN retard so much timing that the car wont do nothing for you.
By listening to your reving of the engine I have a couple ideas. First are you sure your spark plug wires are in the correct order? Second you might want to check your fuel filter. Third You need to make sure you dont have any leaks between the maf and the turbo. (assuming you actually did a boost test already.)

All spark plug wires are in the correct order. and no I didn't get the cam position sensor yet. im going to get it ASAP not sure exactly when tho. And I dun have any boost leaks.
 
i had the same problem when you press the gas harder it wants to give outt or sputters alot, chekc the b.o.v it might sound stupid but i wasnt gettin any pressure through it so it had no where to go becuase the b.o.x internal was messed up from the previous owner. Just make sure the screw is still capped off an he didnt try to make it higher an damage it, could be somethign that simple

I will check that also i found some oil in the lines by the BOV and in the pipe going to the EGR valuve.
 
i had the same problem but my car idle fine,, but as soon as i gave it some gas, and made some boost, it would start to cut out and jerk really bad, had a boost leak at the throttle body, by the intercooler clamps and on the injectors, o-rings. and i also changed the fuel filter, it ran good, but still had some what of a timing problem,

LOOOOL holy shit I thought this was guna be a fairly easy fix but im it's really not. had to take head cover off to torque the bolts for the cam gears. Which was a pain in the ass. Then had to take power steering pump off and remove all the covers. Then removed the motor mount and they are shot haha. So the car is going be out of commission for abit until I can get new motor mounts. Which would be one of the reasons it was jerking when I tried to accelerate quickly. I will keep U guys updated.
 
Did you say you dont have an Intercooler??? OR a BOOST gauge? Those are important parts that should be on your car STOCK. Also... make sure your bov is recirculated aswell.

PLEASE check your intercooler. You should have SMIC, which means they are on the SIDE. Not on the front like a FMIC.

Am i the only one who caught that?

Yea sorry I do have SMIC also do have boost gauge I just wasn't lookin in the right place. Like I said before im fairly new to the turbo model eclipses.

I thought the same thing too, LOL! I caught what he mentioned quick and thought "No intercooler!? Hell naw, what the hell are you doing? Well there's your problem, LOL." It was wierd because after he mentioned not having an intercooler (which is a primary necessity for a turbocharged car), everyone just ignored it and kept beating around the bush trying to diagnose his problem further. ROFL

I think he confused the word intercooler for intake, he probably means he doesn't have an intake. :thumb:

Lol I have SMIC and intake just new with turbo eclipses and didn't know they all came stock with SMIC :D but I dun have any boost leaks so im pretty sure the problem with the jerking is a mix between 2 things 1 the CPS went out and 2 the motor mounts are like completely gone. SO I installed the new CPS but im not going to put everything back together unti l buy and install the new motor mounts. SO as soon as I get the new motor mounts and get everything put back together I will let everyone know how its running. SO keep an eye out for this thread :D Cause if it dun fix the problem ima need more suggestions. :dsm:
 
ECLIPSE37 my 97 gst did the same thing. I had my manual boost controller turned all the way down.

ps: don't buy a Faze boost guage, it sucks
