ok guys today I purchased a 1995 eclipse GST really clean no dents perfect paint great interrior. Looked over the car no engine knock. I knew it had a slight problem with booting and it kinda acted jerky when u started to hit higher RPM and it wanted to cut out but when I shifted it stoped. The guy even told me about it so I just assumed it was like a fuel cut or sumthing. The car is 100% stock. Anyway I got off subject. Ok so I start the car i start getting into 3.5K or higher and the car wants to jerk and cut out. and it seems like if I push the pedal to far down it really wants to cut out. Any of u have any ideas on what the problem might be? I mean I knew I had to fix some thnigs engine wise but I got the car for really cheap so I didn't care. Any help or suggest U could give me would be greatly appreciated. :dsm:

Not only is it garbage, the factory recommends to use 93 octane only.

91 octane is the highest they sell at pumps here in AZ. im guna clean the air filter and clean off the battery posts mayb some corrosion. Will also check vacume lines. Lol i have to go the cheap route for fixing it since I dun have any money ATM cause I just bought the car yesterday.

kinda new to the boost area, but i would definitely check plugs and wires, could be a bad clutch also (maybe warped flywheel, but kind of unlikely)

cleaning the battery posts really wont help anything other than starting, since the car runs off the alternator

also trying checking your throttle position sensor, i've got an 00 tiburon and that seems to be one of our problems with studdering and stalling like what you have

I had a similar problem. Whenever I went above 8psi at 100% throttle she would break up real bad. Turned out to be my spark plugs. I agree with everyone else do a basic tune up, boost leak test, and perhaps a fuel filter. Just my 2 cents

Ima get new cables and plugs when i get the money. I also took a video I think the car might also have a lifter tick. I will give U guys a link to the video soon. i guess the MAFS wasn't all the way plugged in and that helped the jerking problem a little but it still does it. So next thing for me to do is BLT and plugs and plug wires.

in last week a have one noise on engine on my GS 1990... my lifters is new... the noise is the damper pulley, i have swap and the noise out,

in my GSX 1991 the looooudness noise is the oil pump.... OWNED

because the low pressure

So U think its a damper pully?

^^ the one he posted

and dude i have no idea how i managed to piece together your post, that was awful

well here is my question i agree with the boost leak i would check that but what does the clutch have to do with the motor jerking and cutting out the clutch would not affect the way the motor runs or atleast mine did not and mine broke every spring in it but it still started and ran fine

if it jumps like that it means your clutch is going out.

Say im in 5th gear and im trying to accelerate fast the car starts to cut out and jerk like its stuttering. Like it wants to cut out I guess. i tried to take a video of it but it dun make weird noises it just jerks and cuts out like it having a hard time. And it happens when i get into higher RPM and when the boost gets high. The dealer I got the car from said the clutch and tranny were new I cant confirm that but the clutch fells fine 2 me.

Sounds like what my car did when the clutch started slipping, its not completely slipping though which is why it jerks and stuff. But if you have a new clutch i would check spark plug gap if its to much gap under boost the spark will get blown out (or something like that) Set the gap on the plugs to .27-.28 and see if that helps.:dsm:

See if your converter is plugged. If your MAF wasn't plugged in for a long period of time, your converter may have become plugged. That would explain why it won't run good at higher RPM, and would explain why your manifold glows.

FYI: I can drive 125 MPH and it doesn't make my manifold glow, unless I do 125 MPH for like 20 miles nonstop.

Well he couldn't get it to pass emissions so that's what I thought it probably just needs a new catalytic converter. so that might just be the problem.

Change or at least check your plugs before you do anything! Its less then $10.00 and it can prob. use them. Most of the time when the cat is pulged the exhaust smells like a rotten egg you will know once you smell it. Go old school start it at night open the hood and look for spark coming out of the wires. If it bogs in neutral that rules out your clutch. :thumb:

Ok so first, DO A BOOST LEAK TEST, second CHECK THE VACUMM LINES, third check wires, fourth 91 pump gas is OK, lastly did you throw a CODE/CEL? DSMj89...where are you getting your information, i would love to see it. 91 pump gas is ok, stock psi on a 2g is 12 sometimes 13/14, and lastly i doubt its the transmission it happens before he shifts when hes pressing the gas, so most likey his wires (ill give ya +1 ### u mentioned that)

So what i want for you to do is a BLT, check vac lins and wires...then get back to us
