ok guys today I purchased a 1995 eclipse GST really clean no dents perfect paint great interrior. Looked over the car no engine knock. I knew it had a slight problem with booting and it kinda acted jerky when u started to hit higher RPM and it wanted to cut out but when I shifted it stoped. The guy even told me about it so I just assumed it was like a fuel cut or sumthing. The car is 100% stock. Anyway I got off subject. Ok so I start the car i start getting into 3.5K or higher and the car wants to jerk and cut out. and it seems like if I push the pedal to far down it really wants to cut out. Any of u have any ideas on what the problem might be? I mean I knew I had to fix some thnigs engine wise but I got the car for really cheap so I didn't care. Any help or suggest U could give me would be greatly appreciated. :dsm:

Re-check for any boost leaks, also i would recommend changing your spark plug wires. I remember with my 2nd gst i had a similar problem. The car was running strong and all of a sudden when i come back to my house after a quick drive i punched it and it would sputter above 3k rpm, turns out my wires were gone.

Well its like if I slowly pushing the gas pedal down then it dun want to stutter as much but when i push it halfway or 3 quarts in it was to start jerking and cutting out. so i had assumed it was a fuel cut.

If the car was running above normal boost levels then it would fuel cut but if you are running stock boost levels then it could not be fuel cut.

Well its the stock t-25 turbo with no mods the guys says it was at stock boost. I dun have any reason to doubt that since he didn't have any gauges or boost controller. stock psi is like 5 right? so that's what I imagine im running.

2g stock boost is actually higher around 13-14 psi. But boost leak test is a must. Sounds like a boost leak though. Please use correct grammar. :thumb:

Stock boost level on a 2g is 9-10 psi. So in conclusion, it is in no way fuel cut, try the fix i told you, borow a set of working wires from a friend with a similar car and try them on, if it works then order yourself a set, if not, your clutch could probably be the next thing to look at.

Would it help if I took a video? then everyone would better understand what im saying.

ive done research and so far alot of people say that running lean will cause your manifold to turn red quickly and its not normal, then half says it's completely normal for your stock manifold to gold red. Would running lean cause they car to bog and stutter like it is? i mean I can feel it boosting good but it wants to hesitate and it jerks a little.

Stock boost on a 2g is ~13psi. Like everybody else suggested, do a boost leak test (BLT). You need some way to monitor pressure to do a BLT. Because you don't have a boost gauge, build a pressure gauge onto your boost leak tester. I have one on mine and I even have a boost gauge. It just makes it easier to do a BLT, because I don't need a second person to watch the boost/vac gauge in my car.

Watching the exhaust manifold is hardly an effective method of monitoring knock. The manifold will get very hot just under normal operation on a turbo DSM. I can't tell you how red it gets because I have a heat shield covering mine (as should you), but it shouldn't be considered abnormal. Heck, on turbo cars in general it's quite common for the turbo and manifold to glow bright red after a hard run. All that backed up exhaust gas created by the turbine leads to a lot of excess heat.

I don't think there is any reason to presume you are knocking. You don't even have a fuel controller (i.e. Apex'i SAFC) on your car so it's not like the previous owner gave it a bad tune. You said yourself, the car is all stock.. I'm guessing the problem is fairly straight forward. If boost leaks aren't the problem, change you spark plugs and plug wires. Pick up a set of four NGK BPR6ES plugs and gap them to .028" and then get a decent set of replacement wires as well.

I had a slight hesitation problem in my car last summer. It happened about 3500 RPM as well. I replaced my plugs and wires and the problem was gone. You need to eliminate the simple stuff first before you try to go diagnosing a serious problem.

Thank u very much I will look into all that.

No problem. I really hope it helps. Again, I wouldn't worry about the manifold turning red. Quite normal. In fact, Google image search "glowing turbo". You'll find quite a few pictures of very hot turbos and manifolds.

As far as the boost leak tester, here is a link on how to make one.. DIY Boost Leak Tester. If you'd like, I can take a picture of mine tomorrow so you can see one with the pressure gauge attached.

wait cant I just listen for air leaks? I mean if they aren't big enough to hear can't i assume that boost leak wouldn't be the problem?

Listening for leaks helps but isn't always sufficient. It'll have to be pretty big to hear it. Fill a bottle with soapy water to spray the intercooler pipes with. Leaks will appear as bubbles.

i dont have an after market intercooler. yea U cant take a pic if U want that would help alot.

I had the same problem, when my car hit 4.5k rpm it like stops and jerks really bad until you switch the gear> I got my transmission replaced with a 6 puck clutch and 2100 pressure plate($700 :D). After that my car started going all the way to 7k rpm if I want to, he said I had a lot of vacuum lines disconnected, so check for that as well.

could be a fuel cut kinda thing, ignition, boost leak something like that. If its 100% stock check the air filter and make sure thats not clogged to hell.
