Going back and forth on flares for my 1g

How about trying different clay shapes on your car until you find something you like, then lay some glass on it and make a mold? Would love to see something like this that's 1G specific and will fit a 285/30/18 on a 10.5" wheel.

The style of side skirts that I believe would be easier to blend in with fender flares is the one from a 1gb talon tsi. You could just add to them in thickness until the upper edge of the side skirt is flush with the custom fender flare, making the flare very small and just sitting on top of the opening. A side effect of this that could not be so nice to look at is the big step that would be left between the top of the skirt and the upper part of the body. Photoshop anybody?

After a lot of discussion with friend of mine, who does body work, about possible issues of flaring the sheet metal. I've come to a couple conclusions. I'm not a fan of pie cutting quarter panels, there just seems to me to be too much risk in reducing the structural rigidity of the car. With pulling our fenders out any amount you're going to have to add that to the inner fender to make up for that support. A good body guy could probably do it with not a lot of risk involved. But to me, risk is just that. I like the idea of fiberglass flares, with the idea they're not going to allow you do do anything more than run a wider tire. How ever Chris is going to lower his roll center and if it's by lowering the suspension, I'd be very weary about rubbing on the original fender lip. I can't say how much clearance he has in any given situation. I've linked a youtube video of a guy showing how to make fender flares. IMO if you follow the old rules about "Measure twice, cut once" and "90% of body work is preparation" you'll be ok making them. At the end of the day, you can say that was in fact what you were looking for without having to make any sort of concessions.

Maybe it would be easier but I don't want to change my rear bumper cover to match that style, which you would have to do if you wanted it all to match correctly since the lines are slightly different.

I believe I can achieve the look I'm after with flares without using the 1gb Talon rocker trim. I will be using 1ga Talon rockers (as soon as I can find them and buy them).

Have a BBQ /work on dsm party at your house ill come on down, we're all tired of seeing it collect dust. :)
Pip, I'll definitely be setting up a wrench day at some point here, if for nothing else, just to get some more motivation and have some fun in the garage. I'll start planning stuff out for such a day, just have to identify some stuff that makes sense to work on. Would love to have you come down for it.

Hey Chris have you found a solution, I would like to do the exact same... To me the big challenge is the rear quarter... Anyways just wanted to bring this thread back and gather some insight on how to properly accomplish this.

I'm currently trying to make flares for my Talon to fit 17x9 +22 with 255/40 tires.
It would be awesome if I could find a way to 3D scan the car and have the flares printed. But for now I'm going with the old school foam and fiberglass method to make a plug for the eventual mold.

This build shows what it takes to get a finished piece using this method. http://www.mr2oc.com/printthread.php?t=305645#/topics/305645?page=1&_k=23tzr2
