I'm going to order myself a helmet in the next day or two as an Xmas present to myself. What do you think of the one below? I've never owned my own helmet. Does anyone else have the HJC ar10? I was originally looking at the G Force Pro Force 1, but I think this HJC might be a little better. My limit is $300.

I personally have never owned one but it looks good. Is it s Snell 2005 ? You will want to make sure it is so you can get your money's and wear out of it. Certain groups (ie NASA & SCCA) if you are going to race with them, will require to have such a helmet that is Snell 2005. Maybe it is Snell 95, the point is you will want to make sure it is Snell 2005. I hope this helps.

It would be listed like this:

Snell SA2005 Approved

I have never used an HJC automotive helmet. I have a Pyrotect Pro Airflow SA helmet that I picked up for $250 that I really like. It is also SA2005 approved and seems very comparable to the ar10 helmet.

LoL....Thats pretty funny to me. I use the same one. Nice helmet, pretty light weight and fits well.

It is definitely a Snell SA2005 approved helmet. I like the fact that it has a removable/washable nomex liner. The reason I was first considering the G Force helmet was because a friend of mine has one and it's the only one I've worn before. So I knew the size. But all the size charts between manufacturers look very similar.
The pyrotect ones look like another affordable choice.

i have an HJC CL-15 helmet i use when i ride my bike and i have been using a HJC CL-5 (open face) helmet for AutoX for the past 5 years; actually, this helmet is what i plan on replacing my CL-5 with in the near future. HJC makes great helmets and i have been very pleased with mine.:talon:

i say get it.:thumb:

I think you will be happy and good to go with either this one, Pyrotec or a G-Force. It all depends on how much you are willing to spend. :thumb: Now get out there and do some racing !!!LOLLOL

last year i picked up a scorpion EXO 400, only like $135, i like it. Interchangeable lenses, and removable liner. Snell M2005 and DOT.

Nice looking helmet Erik, not sure how the shipping compares but just came across this link, with that helmet for $269.99

Welcome!

I just picked up a helmet as well. Not as fancy but will do the job I'm after as I just need it to run 12's at the track. Its M2005 snell rated (which is fine around here) & paid $120 shipped. Supposed to have removable liner as well

I went with the flat black as it looks tuff :p

Where did you pick that up for $135?

Local Bike shop called Sproketz, but if you google search for the EXO 400 youll find em for like 130-150. The EXO 700 is like 180 or so, but i dont know the difference. Not to mention mine was just Gloss Black, the EXO 400s with the graphics and stuff are like 175-180.

^ Thanks for that link. I did see it when looking for reviews. So $270 and that's free shipping from either vendor.

get a SA2005 ONLY. If your going to do any autox you really want a SA to be completely legal. I have the Gforce pro force and I like it a lot. My next helmet is going to be an impact super sport air.

I would say M rating is fine for AutoX, but I would def get a SA rated helmet for track use. All depends on what your using it for.

SA standard requires flammability test while the M standard does not.
SA standard has rollbar impact test while M standard does not.
SA standard allows narrower visual field than M standard (Some SA helmets aren't street legal).

I'm definitely getting a SA2005 approved one. For Spring, I'm only certain on doing autox, but I've had the itch to do HPDE and possibly more. That will depend on if the car is good enough for some HPDE sessions.

yea good decision, only reason i went M2005 is becuase i know itll work for autoX and i dont plan on tracking my car anytime soon, til i have another one that is.

Well I finally got my helmet. Actually i got it Christmas day but was unsure of the fit. I ordered a large. So today the UPS guy dropped off the new medium one and it fits perfect... well sorta. It fits my head but not the car. I'll guess I'll be pulling out the headliner or splurge for a seat now. Anyways, here are a couple quick pics.

You need to get an extra hood and weld the hump to the roof. Old GT-40 trick.

Gurney bubble. Good idea! Definitely would be useful at 6'1".

Kmoore, the head room issue? Yeah it's tight if you're tall and want to sit upright at all.

It all depends on how tall you are in a lot of cases whether your head hits the roof with your helmet on or not. I am only 5' 10" so its not really an issue for me with a totally gutted interior & racing seats. But other people have the issue. You have to think you probably are adding an extra 2 inches to your height when you put on a helmet. Racing seats will help as they tend to sit lower than the factory seats. They did in my case anyway. Good looking helmet though.
