How much head room do you need to fit a helmet on your head without hitting the roof?
Right now I believe I have 2" of head room, but it may actually be 2.5- 3". Is that enough?

What I was asking is if I have 2" of head room without a helmet, will that be enough to fit a helmet on my head or should I try to adjust the seat for more. I just got a new Sparco fixed-back race seat with hopes of sitting lower and even with the lower cushion removed I only have 2-3".

So when you installed the racing seats did it lower your seating position? I know right now even with my headliner removed I won't be able to sit in my 2g with my helmet. I was hoping the Corbeaus I have would solve that problem.

Just because I'm such I nice guy, :) I just measured my self with and without my helmet. I was about 2.5" 'taller' with the helmet I think. It's going to be tight.

You going to be hitting the roadcourses around CO this summer?

Grant, I just put in a Sparco Sienna in my 2g with their bracket and sliders. I am 5'6'' and my head was smashed against the headliner. I am beyond pissed off. Plus the seat has zero support for racing. My stock black leather has no less than the Sparco. Use Wedge Engineering > HOME. They make ultra-low brackets. I am returning that seat tomorrow.

Also, two years ago, I ran a Corbeau Forza with their own brackets & sliders and I was nice and low.

Yes, soon I hope.

It doesn't appear that seat is from their race line-up of seats so I wouldn't expect much. I am extremely happy with my Sparco Evo. It is easy to get in and out of, and also holds you well.

That's good. I figured their buckets wouldn't be the same, but I was just giving you a heads up. Do you like the fixed-back for daily usage?

Look into the Sparco 400 series mounts. The seat sliders mount directly to the seat base, without the use of tab-brackets. The tab brackets are used in the 500 series seat bases only for height adjustment. I currently have the 500 series seat bases with the tab brackets. By removing the tab brackets you will lower the seat at the very least .5".

My car isn't a daily driver.

In my case yes. When we installed my Corbeau seats with the brackets the seating position is lower. I am only 5' 10" and my head does not hit the roof with my helmet on. And if you didnt use the "Corbeau" (or whatever) brackets, just fabed dome up, Im sure you could get the seat even lower.

I'm sure it depends on driver height too. I'm 6' and my Corbeau seats with their brackets and sliders made me sit 2 inches higher than stock. I replaced their sliders with some metal strips and I have about 3" of headroom on my car without a sunroof.

So the Corbeau brackets will lower the seat enough to be usable? That's good to hear. Not to threadjack, but tsiboosted, what model are you running? ...Cage pics? :)

Flash, I too hope to have my Talon on the track by the end of the season. If not, I'll just keep taking my CTS-V. Been to 4 days already this summer and can't wait until the next.

Edit: Somehow I missed the post right before mine. Oops.

I am using the FX1 seat in my car....I know man, I know. You gotta stay on me sometimes to get those things taken. With my new business starting up, latley I have been burning the candle at both ends a little too much. Have not had much time to head through the garage lately.

Here is the seat I am using now.

I've got Sparco EVO 2 fixed-back seats with Sparco brackets & rails. With the seats set to their lowest possible setting, my 5'10" 180lbs frame *just* has enough room for a helmet. I would say it's comparable to the headroom provided by the stock manual cloth seats.

As a side note, even with the sliders, I am no longer able to get into the rear seats. With the seats having a fixed-back, the sliders alone are not enough for me to squeeze back there.

Another thing to note is that body composition plays a part too. If you have long legs and a shorter torso you can get away with being taller than if you have shorter legs and a longer torso. For example, with Cobra brackets and an Imola II I hit the roof wearing a helmet unless I remove the bottom padding on the seat, not a huge deal. My brother, who is maybe 1/2" shorter than me has plenty of clearance wearing a helmet. YMMV.

Another thing to consider is you might not sit as tall in your stock non-fixed back seats with stock harnesses as you would with race seat/harness.

I run MOMO supercups with momo side brackets and wedge engineering brackets. I am 6'2 and I have to scrunch a little bit, I was a little pissed because I moved from my sparco fixed back to these and I lost an inch to 2 inches of headroom. Would be fine if I was just .5 to an inch shorter LOL.
