get rid of the balance belt and shafts while you're in there. And change all your accessory belts too.

Easier said than done. With the engine in the car, pulling the front shaft is no problem, but unless you have a sawzall or something, you'll need to pull the engine to have enough room to pull the rear shaft all the way out.

Pulling the water pump is not difficult. You'll see when you have the lower timing belt cover off, it's four or five bolts holding it to the front case.

Get OEM belts, make list and buy everything, Dont forget paint. Helps to have couple books or printed vfaqs. Have second car to go to part store again, also extra helper if availabile. Clips from hardware store helped hold new belt in place on gears, Keep everything lined up.

Hun?

The rear shaft comes out with the oil pump and letting the engine sag on the remaining mounts (since you have to remove the driverside mount to get any of this) but the front shaft requires you to really drop the engine down. That's why many people leave it in but disconnected.
