So, after buying this basket case its coming together nice. So heres what I have done so far.

New transmission
Changed fluid in tranny, case, and rear diff.
new Transfer case
St. 1 exedy clutch
both front drive shafts
attached rear drive shaft, and got it bolted in.
Timing belt kit/new pulleys, and water pump
I did the basic stuff too, cleaned the IC, cut the back panel out. removed plug in BCS rest.
reset WOT, adjusted clutch travel. fixed boost leaks.

Is there anything I have forgotten to do you can think of tell me. Oh, I need to check base timing. It should be +5 at Idle?

I've basically done all the preventative maint. that was neglected when I bought the car.:applause:

I was going to get a 190, and a small 16g, and have it tuned but what else should I do that needs done first?

oh, I did a 2g exhaust manifold with new gaskets today the old manifold has about a half dozen cracks in it one almost wrapped all the way around between #2, and #3 on the right side of the turboOMG

I been shopping for a boost gauge for it. I can't seem to find a good two gauge combo. I was going to get boos t,and oil pressure.

check out autometer sportcomp mechanical gauges, they are really cheap, and make sure you rewire that pump gl :D

Seems like you have done a real good job so far. I would also look into getting some injectors and an AFC to tune with or a dsmchip and logger. Otherwise, you have done well. I would do an exhuast and port the TB and get a big or evo 16g though. FP has them on sale right now.

Right rewire the 190 pump I'll remember that.

Injecters I bet its got stock. I wanted to get an safc soon. But money is tight. I have an extra transmission I could turn into cash for this. For an exhaust I was going with 2.5 in. down pipe. But I wanted the small 16g isn't it the one with part number 005200? All I'm looking to get is 300 or so. Why go with the big 16g? Should 550cc's do?

550 should be fine. Get a AFC and rewire. The small is fairly similar to the 14b. I would go for the big or evo3 just for better spool and more top end.

Right on,... After I installed that 2g manifold. It spooled better, and maintained better. It spools up around 3,200 rpms. even if I let off, and let the rpms drop down,a nd hit it again its spooled fully right at 3,200. It hols boost all the way up in all gears. So your saying the big 16g would do me better for that type of tune?

Sounds like you have done a great job so far.

Why would a larger turbo spool better? I can fully see better top end but in my experience larger turbos always spool slower (i am talking initial spool).

My evo3 def. pulled harder and spooled the same. I shouldn't have said, spool faster, but def. spooled just as fast, and flowed a lot more air. This was especially after 5500 rpms. My mistake for saying that. I had a ported exhaust housing from FP and it pulled VERY hard.

That makes alot more sense. I would def agree that once in the band a slightly larger turbo will have a harder "hit"so to speak...

And it was nice, because it seemed to spool at any rpm. After 2k, it was building boost, and came alive at 3200 or so. I have never sat in a car like that before yet.

I dont know if you said this already (I didnt see it), but what are your long terms goal for the car? Solid daily driver, or do you want something leaning towards more power?

Hes looking for 300 or so he said. You will have a nice setup from what has already been discussed and should get close to that goal. With some good gas, and a solid tune, you should be there, as well as having a low 13, high 12 second car.

solid yes. but with attitude. Around here there are only a couple dozen of these cars in the state. Daily driver yes. +300 or so yes. not much more then that. I was getting ready to buy a boost gauge. But I need to attend to the fifth gear synchronizer first. Maybe I can swap the assembly from the old transmission out because it was in good condition.

as far as tuning I was thinking boost controller, gauge, new turbo, 2.5" down pipe, 3" back exhaust. 190 FP rewire. 550cc's. then remap or a safc....

Alright update. I got a small boost gauge installed. Its a sunstar. It only goes up to 20 psi. I'm not planning on going over that really anyway. But it'll do until I can afford a better one. I like it it matches the gauge panel.

I also fab'ed up a boost controller. Thing is I can't get it set right? At first I had it near the fan. I got some 2' of hose, and moved it over behind the air filter. Right after leaving the parking lot after moving it, I hit the throttle,a nd it went straight up to 20 psi?...I stopped right off, and backed it off until I was unset, and turned it just till it touched the spring. Still 20psi. Once I had it backed off, and it spiked 16, and settled down to 14 or so.

Now if I hit it it just wants to go all the way to 20psi. I can't even go WOT because its over boosting? The bolt is just barely even touching the spring. I drilled a small hole in it as said too. I can't seem to figure this out. Maybe the Waste gate is stuck?

Best way to check very quickly, remove the MBC, and see what happens. Guarantee its the MBC is hooked up incorrectly.

Its hooked up as per the sheets I looked at.

I did, no difference. This makes sense. So now the outlet nipple is pushing air against the ball bearing instead of pressing down on it. But my small hole is now in the area for that line. Maybe I need to find a softer spring.
The thing about it is I followed a diagram to hook the lines up. I'm hunting for a spring.

Alright. I found a spring in an old door latch I had. I stretched it a bit, and It worked. In first gear I got 14psi all the way up to 6k. In second gear it spiked, and fell back down to like 16psi up to 5.5k But in 3rd, it wanted to go even higher.

BTW at high boost it sounds like one of my injectors is making noise. Is that possible for one to make a tapping noise?

What kind of BOV do you have? (you mentioned a fluttering sound)

If it was an injector you should've seen/heard it when you did your boost leak test, but it sounds like it's boost related since it only happens over 10psi :hmm: . I would say do another BLT and see if you notice anything, if not then look to your engine/drivetrain components.
