Hello guys, well I recently blew my 4g63 and now I'm on the search for a working long block. I found one on craigslist from a vr4, now I know its the same 6 bolt, does anyone know if the harness or any connectors are different? This guy wants 500 for the longblock, ecu, and the awd tranny which I currently have no use for, but why not take it. He claims it has hks 272/272's, and that alot of money was put into the engine. He showed me a video of the engine working and the whole deal, he says he really needs to sell it because he doesnt have a job. The galant was a full caged rally car used in mexico (I live on the border), so I think the engine must have took some beating, the car was then gifted to him. What do you guys think about this? sounds good to me if I pull that vc off and there are some hks 272s.

Reuse the electronics from your '90, assuming that's the one that blew, including your throttle body, CAS, coil pack, and power transistor unit and you shouldn't have any trouble. You might also keep an eye out for your noise filter on the back of the intake manifold bracket when you pull your engine so you don't break it.

Then ship me the harness for free.

ROFL

Most of the plugs are the same this guy ^ would know better than I did. however they are not too terribly different. Fuse box and obviously where they connect to the chassis harness is different.

Read 19Eclipse90's post and that will tell you what connectors are different.

Motor mounts are different. Front motor mount bracket (the one that bolts to the engine) is definitely different, mount your eclipse one to it. Rear should be the same but don't quote me.

What I have in my Laser .. is a Galant VR4, 4G63 motor w/B16G, but the JDM variety.
Came with 510's since the VR4 ran 225HP out of the factory.
But, with my stock ECU, I reduced the injectors down to the stock 450's to get the A/F balanced, for with the 510's I was running plenty rich.
Still can scream down the freeway without a whimper...

Couldn't help myself. LOL

Scott's correct. My rule of thumb is to reuse the engine mount brackets from the vehicle that you are swapping the engine into as it eliminates a lot of guesswork from the job.

Since you're reusing the 1990 harness, you need the above listed compatible electronics to go with the harness. Not a major task to remove and reinstall those components.

So your saying I use my throttle body, CAS, coil pack, and power transistor unit from my 90 or do I have to get that from the galant into my eclipse? As you see I'm just a little confused on what I have to use from my eclipse in order to make this motor work.

That's precisely what I'm saying.

You want the electronics that are going to match the harness you are using. Since you certainly don't want to change harnesses and will be using the 1990 engine harness that is in your Eclipse, you want to retain those specific items from your Eclipse engine for the GVR4 engine you are putting in. Switching those few items makes the swap practically plug and play.

Okay now I get you, thanks for getting it clear, I hope this motor works though, I will be seeing it some time this week, if it doesnt work and it does have hks 272 cams I guess thats a good deal anyways, I mean $400 for all that, why not.

Well I ended up buying this motor for $400 bucks and I just dropped it in the car 2 days ago, the front motor mount looks exactly the same but it didn't up, so I'm going to be changing that one out. My tranny also didn't want to align with the block but I managed to put on one bolt on the tranny and I just need to align the block and tranny and put on the rest.

The did come with hks cams and I also spotted arp headstuds, so it might be rebuilt, but I'm not sure.

Yes, the GVR4 front engine mount is different. Sell it on the Galant board, as they are somewhat desirable.
